Hey guys,

I have a navy blue 240Z that I purchased from a friend of a friend.

Originally brought with blown head-gasket I drove it with the stock L24 and flat-top SUs ( :( ) until the SUs decided to develop a flatspot from between 1% and 80% throttle. Holding the throttle anywhere inbetween those two resulted in massive overfueling, a black plume of smoke three lanes wide on the freeway, half a rear muffler and a subsequent police detective motivated pull-over.

After several trips to Ballarat going 100->110, clutch, roll, repeat, I sourced a supercharged L28 replacement. After some clutch dramas during the install I drove the car like this for 6 months or so while I gathered together parts for a turbo conversion.

Then 6 months ago (ok so it might be more than 6 months), after breaking the gear selector linkage on the 280z 5-speed in there I took the car off the road to do the conversion.

Thanks mate.

Its currently sitting with a blown gearbox. But I bought an SR box yesterday so will do my best to get that in over the coming weeks. Also got a 3.54:1 locker diff to go in (curteousy of Cam McKinnon), and 16x8 and 16x7 rims which I'm hoping will fit somewhere. :D

Plan is to go track racing at the NDSOC Calder sprints on Oct 31st. Fingers crossed.

Dave

SR gearbox is in. I'm going to write a tutorial about it now, and we'll add pics when we do Mad1600s.

Locker is in, dunno if the ratio is a 3.54 or not because it revs up very quickly!

Time will tell. The gears are around 17% wider than the 71A box. And the 71A didn't strip a gear, just shat a front bearing (which I replaced with a new one).

Heres hoping,

Dave

Wind resistance. ;)

Plus I can because something is wrong with the intermittent wiper electrics.

what can you tell me about the history of those custom turbo manifolds?
how much did they set you back.
how they compare to standard 280zx-t manifolds.
some factors in their construction, etc...

fortunatey, i was lucky enough to score myself some 280zx-t manifolds about a month ago. although, considering that you have an F54 block with a P90 head (it's obvious that you got your head/block package from a turbo 280zx), so why did you get custom turbo manifolds instead of keeping with the standard factory turbo manifolds that would've come with the engine? -(unless taken off beforehand). wouldnt they've done the job well enough?

btw, what you've done with that 240Z is incredible. allot of planning and passion would've gone into that car for it to be the way that it is today. goodwork!

Stanzoid,

Thanks for the compliments but I can't really take too much credit. The heart of it, that exhaust manifold, was nothing to do with me. I bought it from a pro tig-welder who built it for his race car. He then decided to go a supercharged 1UZFE so I picked it up for AUD250.

It was a once off and I think he kinda regretted mentioning that price as soon as he had. I got very very lucky.

When I brought the engine home it was supercharged with an SC14 and didn't have any turbo manifolds (which is why I'm using the smaller L28E intake manifold).

The manifold I believe is much better suited to a larger turbo/high hp configuration. I think there is little to be gained if you're using the standard T3 which the US boys tell us is good for around 350-400hp.

Cheers for the compliments though. :) Just the beginning. Lots more to come.

Dave

Editted because Ders is a little girl.

Lurch,

When I say ALL, I mean ALL collectively, instead of just yours... Sorry, it wasn't that clear

Maybe:
Wouldn't it be great if all bunches of bannanas finished in a turbo? (even the fruit variety...)
