Posting this on behalf of my mate Rollo.

Body: 240Z shell with FG 250GTO body kit ? still to be fitted.

Engine: Lexus V8, Opcon Autorotor Supercharger with Swedish W2A Intercooler cores, Custom reduction drive gearbox for the SC. Custom equal length ?cross-over? extractors. Haltech or MoTec EMS.

Gearbox: Custom adapted 300ZX gearbox.

Differential assembly: Jaguar IRS with LSD.

Brakes & Suspension: Custom coil overs all round, ?Outlaw? 4 spot callipers with suitable brake rotors. WRX P/S rack conversion.

Looking for around 550-600HP.
It?s to be used for club runs & club (sprint) track days.
Rollo is STILL the 1st owner of this car - he bought it new off thew showroom floor in the early 70's. It was also the 1st 240Z to be sold in West Gippsland, Vic.

Any questions, please ask & I will try and answer them.

(Indecently, Rollo is the bloke who made ?thehelix?s? turbo manifold for his Zed?)

Rollo is a legend. Can't wait to go up against him around the track. :)

For those in the dark, thats a WRX power steering rack in the zed. A supercharger mount (can't remember what for). Thats also a Z32 turbo 5-speed adapted to the 1UZ. Shes gunna be a BEAST.

Nice project, should turn out to be an awesome car.
2 questions though, why the crossover pipe extractors, they look awefully complicated?
Why the reduction drive gearbox on the supercharger, wouldn't it be simpler/lighter to control the ratios via the pulley diameters?

Cross over pipes to make it sound like a Ferrari IIRC. Probably a better reason.

dont let the purests on classiczcars.com see this! Jag rear end, toyota motor...

Looks great! Something different i spose, would go loike a shower of sh*t and certainly confuse some people!

I thought the 250GTO kits were illigal? Something to do with Ferrari saying it was too close to the real deal! there is 1/2 a 250GTO kit on a 240z here in WA... stock L24 tho!

Jake,
Rollo did the pipes that way for the reason Dave stated, IIRC.
There is a reason why he made the g/box for the SC, but I cant remember what it was... :?
I shall ask him when I see him next.

Chris,
No, the kits are legal.
The bloke who owned the moulds in Aus. started putting Ferrari badges on the kits.
Ferrari cracked the shits & threatened him with legal action.
End of Story :(

If nothing else that gearbox allows the supercharger to be placed further backwards, ie, more inline with the inlet ports. Could've just put a very long drive shaft to bring the pulley in line with the crank pulley, but I like that setup much much better. Also will make helluva whine, in true s/c style.

I'd also be interested in the reason for the supercharger gearing.

Just seems like an incredible amount of fabrication and design has gone into making the drive for the supercharger, there is obviously some logic behind it.

Fair enough about the exhaust then. If it really makes it sound like a GTO then it should be worth the extra work.
Gearbox on the s/c on the other hand seems to be adding complexity for no good reason. The s/c should whine heaps on its own and I see it as just another component to fail.
As for lining it up with the ports, I guess that like most superchargers the Autorotors have an intake at one end on the top and outlet at the other end on the bottom. So the s/c has to blow in to a plenum anyway and would need to be forward to centre the s/c outlet in the middle of the inlet ports.
I am also curious as to whether the s/c gearbox has it's own oil supply or if it runs off engine oil?
No offence meant, I just like the KISS method myself.
Jake

some nice work in progress there!

I'm guessing that the added gearing on the SC is to stop strain on the input shaft. Its pretty long so it would bend quicker if you hang a belt off the other end...

but then again thats a complete stab in the dark.
