We got the fuel setup basically finished this arvo, we were just thwarted by a lack of decent hose clamps. Should be ready to turn it over tomorrow.
Fingers crossed. A bit of luck with the air intake, it turns out that air flow meter flange for an r33 GTS-t is the same bolt pattern as the MR30 one, so I have a pod filter adapter waiting to go on.

Also, some years ago, I ripped out the air intake from an r31, and for some reason held onto all the pipes and clamps (I considered turfing them on more than one occassion, but always kept them on the off change they'd be useful). I think it may actually have the right sized elbows to run from the engine bay to the massive void between the radiator and the front grille. Might just need some custom brackets, or failing that some ADR-compliant zip ties.

Gotta love that nissan parts interchangeability.

I'll see how I go with my custom setup, but if it doesn't work out then I might hit you up for some parts. As far as possible I'm really trying to avoid cutting any steel (going to run my plumbing through the passenger's vent intake in the front of the 260).

From what I remember of looking under the bonnet of a 280, the air intake setup was fairly big and heavy, and would require some substantial support brackets etc to actually mount it. I'm not sure if it would physically fit either, it's a big mother of a thing, and then there would be issues re: blocking airflow to the radiator.

What are your plans for the 280, intent on parting it out? *edit* NM, saw your post in the parts section.

I pulled the airbox out, it uses 2 bolts through the radiator support panel and a bracket down to the bottom rail. You can have airbox, rubber hose to AFM, aie intake pipe and support bracket for $15 if you want them.

IT RUNS.

We had a bit of head scratching over the last two days wondering why we were getting no fuel, turns out it was one wire we were not giving the 12v that it needed. Once it had that it basically started first turn and settled into a nice little idle. Bad ass.

As well as all that, it still sounds really great. I thought switching from twin carbies to efi was going to make it sound like a ghey econobox but it still has that throaty roar when you rev the engine. No black smoke out the back, and a nice clean idle. Can't wait to see how it runs. Very exciting times.

Well we put it back together minus bonnet (wouldnt clear the temporary air flow meter location) and took it for a gentle lap of the block. Found a water leak which we fixed, corrected the timing which was retarded to buggery, and stuck the 02 meter on it and found it is running quite lean. With a new inlet between the throttle body and the air flow meter it should be great.

So, the question is, is this

a) drift-spec awesomeness
b) kinda rough, but should do the job
c) put down the keys and step away from the datsun

Bugger - nice idle notwithstanding, it was running lean as all hell, like 20:1.

It appears two of the injectors were'nt firing.

Like, I wouldn't have thought it would even fire up when it was running on 4. It started really easily too, WTF? The idle sounded about the same as it was when it was running carbies.

Anyhow, one of the injectors seems to have "come good" after giving it a bit of an extra scrubbing, but one is well and truly dead (wouldn't click after getting direct battery power on it).

Hopefully this will bring the afr back down to something normal. Bob reckons the L24E injectors are the same as the L28E injectors (ie the na not the turbo). Can anyone confirm?

Gees, if they were the same as the rb30 that would be awesome, I'd never have any dramas finding replacements!

Hmm - there seem to be conflicting views on this. In this thread:

http://www.skylinesaustralia.com/forums ... 70368.html

the bloke at the bottom recons L24E, L28E and RB30E are all different, however I have found a couple of price lists (US though) that have the same part number for all the L24E and L28E motors. Andrew and I were going to test the flow of one of his L24E injectors vs a random one I have to see if they are the same - anyone feel like lending a spare RB30E injector so we can compare it as well?
