Hi all

Well, the datsun hasn't sold (such a shame...heh) so I'm doing a respray and some other bits and pieces. Last night I stripped out the interior and should be starting on the paint stripping this week. At this stage, it will definitely be a bright red, but it's still up in the air whether I will do a gold pearl over the top (I think it will match the rims well, see pic below).

After that some suspension work and a decent diff will be the next priorities.

Anyway, thought I'd post some "before" pics and will provide updates as the body work progresses.

Well, have started taking apart the exterior and interior trim, and so far so good. No structural issues to report.

There was a bit of rust in the usual places on both front guards, but we hit it with the wire brush and angle grinder and then some rust kill, so that's sorted. On at least one side, it had already had a patch welded in, but you couldn't see it on the outside so it was a good job.

Crow's feet on the rear quarters and orange peel on the bonnet means basically 2/3 of the car is getting stripped back to bare metal. Few minor dents but a thin wipe of bog will sort them out.

Uh, not really, other than some sound deadening. Maybe some suspension work if I can get the parts together, but then that can be done anytime. Is there anything I should be doing? Do you mean like seam welding or some such?

no i was just wondering i fyou were going to do some engine work or anything else like that while you were doing the rebuild.

just have fun with it dude, and only take on as much as you can, without it becoming a huge stress it's supposed to be fun, it took me 2 years to realise that.

As with most people, I have toyed with the idea of dropping an RB26dett in there, but to be honest my other cars are an r32 GTR and a z32 TT, so I'm not *too* worried about making this ballistic performance (although the power-to-weight ratio would make it seriously fast).

In the short-mid term, I think I'd like to do the suspension, (shocks, springs, sways, possible bushes) and maybe go to a low-ratio LSD. From there I could be pursuaded to go with bigger carbs (possibly triple, but $$), but that's about it. If I kept it, it would be a *daily driver* and I wouldn't want lumpy cams etc etc. I guess in the end it all depends on whether somebody decides to buy it.

Bog city is located in the municipality of Rustville.

Well, paint-stripped it on the weekend and I have to say my initial optimism may have a bit misplaced.

There's a lot more bog than I thought, and the crow's feet was due to some surface rust that was not treated the last time it got taken back to bare metal. However some metal conditioner will take care of that.

The rear hatch is badly pitted. Fair bit of bog there. And it looks like it's taken a hit on the driver's door.

What I'm really concerned about is the rust beneath the driver's door. Am going to take to it with an an angle grinder (previous owner just bogged up the rust hole!!!) and then my new best mate Bob is going to weld a plate in (onya bob). He already did a pro job welding up the aerial hole and stitching the door back together.

Mate, If you think you've got bodywork issues, I got news for you...
I would have LOVED to have had that little rust in mine!
