Earlier this year, near Jindy

Everything has to end, and so does this 27 year old story.
My mother bought the car new in 1983, and when she died, dad drove it, and when he died a couple of years ago, I have been driving it since.
It's been a challenge at times, but the problems were gradually ironed out; new wheel bearings, recon head, new rings, etc. I had a gearbox service two days ago, and it was running like a dream.
I had a bed made up in the back (the only seat left was the driver's seat), and just the other week had a mattress custom-made. It was so comfy to sleep in.
The last few years I've done heaps of touring, especially through the Snowy Mtns.
An idiot pulled right out in front of me. I slammed on the brakes, and tried to swerve around, but he slammed into my side, and slid me into the oncoming lane. Luckily, there was a gap in the traffic, and so I was not hit.
It looks much worse in the flesh. The chassis looks like it's bent.
I know we shouldn't get attached to 'things', after all, it is just a car, but still, I could have cried.
Many thanks to everyone who has helped me out, and commented, over these couple of years. A great ride while it lasted.

A shame.
What's the insurance company say?
Time to move up to an R31 Skyline wagon I think!

I don't think so Nik, that's a bit big! Can you buy another Pulsar with your insurance payout? Even if you just buy a body, or one with a blown motor, you could swap everything over from this car. Whilst I'm no Pulsar expert it shouldn't be a costly exercise.

Again Alistair you miss the point completely...
R31 wagon means a couple of slabs, fridge for food, perhaps shooting/fishing equipment, BBQ storage etc. etc.
THINK MAN THINK!

Re; insurance

I just had third party property insurance.
Talked to a lawyer about the money and attention I've spent on it, and that the other guy's insurance will prob just offer the market value, which will not be much.
He suggested I have a good case to get some money back, with receipts, etc.
Anyone done this before?

Nik, I see what you're trying to say, but the man has obviously done very well out of his little Pulsar in the time he has had it. Whilst an R31 wagon would give him extra space and many other good things he has managed to do something a little different with his Pulsar. Plus I was giving him a suggestion that I was hoping would make him feel better

It did make me feel better!
I like the sedan shape, and with the set up I had, there was plenty of room - just needed a roof pod for the gear. Getting roof racks was a harder journey than I thought.
And, just last week, I was thinking of getting the bodywork back up to scratch - mechanically, I think it was (finally) ok, just needed some body work.

A few years back now my mate had bought a skyline hatch for around 2K and got slammed into about a week later, no insurance or anything. He ended up contacting a lawyer as you have done who contacted the other persons insurance company and he ended up getting a payout of around 3.5k, he ended up buying an awesome little one owner immaculate bluebird... So although you wont get yr car back, chin up and hope for the best. Good luck :)
