got me a free race car - MK2 esky shell, all set up sans engine and box. bit rusy but nothing space invader and bog won't fix.

even got a set of semi slicks and a set of rally tyres/rims as well.

my payment for helping a bloke out with a MK1 shell and getting it moved and built.

might sling a telstar FE 2.0L twin cam in it with a mid 80s mazda cosmo 5speed (same motor - FE) for the RWD scenario. that way i can keep a ford motor in it and stay in the class it's registered without increasing capacity.

anyhoo - i thought it was exciting, not everyday you take a race car roller as payment for a Sunday's work (well, more just hauling stuff and driving around a fair bit).

Mad score man, 2door aswel!

I love these cars ive got about 15 retro ford/classic ford mags, tells you all about the zetec (modeo) engine conversions and what not... all of the good sh*t is in the UK though... Deffinately want to get an escort one day purely for the twin cam/live axle combo

I worked on a mates car last weekend for a whole sunday did his entire engine conversion for him, and i havent yet recieved the beers promised... so a car is quite a good deal

If you start work on it put up a thread 8)

Seen that car being hammered at Motorkhana's years ago, great to see it's still kickin' around. The air filter thru the head light is a nice touch

i actually helped build this car originally - it was my idea about the headlight pod et al!

it's cold air induction is a bit of flexipipe off the pod into an old biscuit tin (!) on top of the carby.

i'm pretty excited about the whole ordeal. already worked out the ins and outs of the FE conversion (sump mods and new mounts) so looking forward to putting it all together.

it's not quick, but it's got a hydraulic handbrake, locked diff and tramp rods.

i'll make some extended LCAs for some serious change in direction for motorkhanas and leave the stockos in for Wanneroo.

411 is a basket case - cant find ANYTHING good enough. that one has been dead for a LOOOOONG time.

Tercel with a rotor is a good one, but i reckon i might shelve it now i have something else to play with.

my business partner is still gonna build the gasser without me, it'll just be a slower build now. still, we were yet to find a car so he may can the idea without me - dunno, he's fickle like that.

so there :P record straight. this is free, the others aint.

FE 2.0 out of an early TX5 can be bolted straight up to a 93ish B2200/B2000 or mid 80s RWD 929 gearbox with the F2 flywheel, clutch and B2200 pressure plate for an instant ford based 2.0L twincam motor with 5 speed box. you do NOT want to know how long i spent on the net trying to find that out, then i find a thread on MX6.com about it all.

needs sump clearances but that's easy enough, pan only mods. dizzy at rear of motor will just involve a big bit of pipe recessed thru the firewall, welded in with an open-able back for dizzy servicing from the cabin.

won;t even reverse the TB position, just run the air filter inside the bonnet cowling area.

easy to hook up an 808 delco or just fit the stocko computer for now.

looking gooooooood....

it's a custom manifold though - no twin cams came with carbs, only the single cams did and they're a completely different manifold bolt and port pattern. not worth the effort.

Esky is out at Northam awaiting a heart transplant - this is the whitewood having a little cool down after dragging the Mk1 up Greenmount hill at 40kph.

managed to pickup a spare Pinto engine and box to suit - so will use that for the moment until the funds let up a bit. got a ton of spare carbies and tyres as well - so i'll use the thing as a paddock basher until it's ready - got rally tyres too

Got news for you the FE engine is a mazda engine so going that route wont keep it ford. What a lot of people are doing these days is putting the Zetec engine out of the focus into their escorts. These engines have heaps more power than a crusty 80's FE engine. Should look into that.

FE also availabe in Telstars - so is a Ford engine.

Family Engines are allowed - like the Pulsar/Camira/Daewoo Family II engines - that's Nissan and GM for one engine.

FE also available in the Mazdas like you mention.

Zetec = $2000 engine only, FE = $400.

FE is the FJ of the Ford world.
