wanting to get the rear camber and toe within reasonable limits to minimise expensive tyre wear...

im leaning toward a system of cam adjusters as used on most production cars

but then theres the datsport kit which is quite different and more complicated...

it looks to have a perhaps easier and more accurate setup but what about durabilty....woouldnt it be cheaper to produce a kit based on the cam principle?

In my experience the cam type adjuster are often a pain. Often the lugs on the x-member bend due to them being too thin and the bushes tight. When adjusting Alfas with an alloy x-member you need to be very careful that the lug doesn't just break off. On some types, (brand new landrovers even!) the bolt would spin inside the eccentric washer on the nut end. They can also be very hard to move after a few years of crap builds up.
They would be cheaper to produce and I assume that is why you see them regularly on production cars, but the Datsport setup is one of the best looking setups around, and they have already done all the hard work for you.

I think most manufacturers use the cam as it's cheap and usually a set and forget kinda operation. On a race car it's a little different. I like the ease of adjustability of the Datsport kit. That's not to say the cam style won't work, but it can be a bit more of a pain. The Subaru's use cam adjusters for the adjustment of the rear camber/toe and the camber on the front strut legs. The fabrication of the little cam stops could be a little interesting as well.

we tried the cam adjusters in our V1 ARC.
Dropped the idea as soon as we got it on the aligner.
Pain in the butt to set up. The aligners hated it.
The newer sytem is much easier to adjust.
Has now been tested on a top rally car will excellent results.
Much faster entry & exits. heaps more traction.
After getting the setting that suits the drivers style the adjuster lock
nuts were loctited. No problems with reliability.

I've got the V4 ARC datsport kit. Put simply it's fraking great. Every aligner loves it. Super easy to adjust and strong as a mofo. :)
