hey people,

im luke, im from the UK but as we dont have a big datsun following here i figured i should sign up to this forum. im from the honda scene and currently own a honda civic 1600 turbo (if you would like to see it just ask) but i have just saved this 1974 120y from the scrap heap.

its been sat in a barn for as long as i can remember and ive always had my eye on it, it hadnt been started in 10 years and after 3 hours it idled and then the IM/EX gasket failed :(

if anyone can tell me anything about these cars such as chassis numbers, engine codes, what other engines drop straigh in ect please do as i dont have a clue.

also what websites are good for restoration parts and performance parts as some of the panels need changing and want to get an idea of what can be done with it.

heres the pics:

welcome mate, being in the UK will make your restoration hard but there is a wealth of datsun knowledge and parts for the 120y here in OZ. as these motors have an A series (a12) you can upgrade to an A14/A15 quite easily but im not sure on their availability for you over there.

datsun1200.com is a good place for info as well

good luck!

thanks for the welcome :)

i found out i have the redesigned A12 with the dizzy on the side of the block, apprently the mounts are slightly moved on this version, will an A14/A15 still fit?

i need to find a a passenger side sill, rear wheel arch and rear lower quarter/bumper.

engine conversion wise here in the UK, anythings a go :) any enigne into any vechile if you can make it fit.

what modles are the A14/A15's out of?

this is a silly question but, will it run on leaded or unleaded?

luke.

Welcome!

Parts in the uk are going to be hard to source but if you willing to pay pretty sure you can get whatever u want.

Engine wise, just do what most of us power hungry, sideways aussies do and drop a nissan sr20 into it..might be a tight fit and its not as simple as it sounds.

Try ebay for parts.

Cheers

ok guys, started trying to clean the brakes up today.

they where actually in really good condition considering how long the car has been stood for. both front disc only had mild surface rust so i was able to clean them up and reuse them, both front caliper pistons only took a slight hit to free up and the pistons and seals are all 100% :) the hardline on the strut snapped though so had to make up some new replacements and one of the rear brake piston seals is knakkered.

this is the worse bit of rust on the car

Good luck mate, you'll need it, mine is in about as bad condition as yours, just hidden away under bog jobs and in different areas.

Follow the links through there and there's a UK forum. Also that's probably the best place to gert Datsun parts in the UK! Are there many 120Ys left in the UK? There's still a few out here, possibly the most commonly-seen Datsun.

yea ive found that site, the guys who runs it is very helpfll and already sorted me out a few parts :)

i read somewhere theres less then 15 B210 coupes left here and as thats a more popular model then the saloon i guess i must have one of the only saloons left :(

this project has to be put on hold till the summer now, its going to take more resources then originally thought and i need to get my civic finished for next years HKS pro street drag series.

What about the green one with the black vinyl roof on top gear?

Do a search on Youtube.com for "stig in a 120Y"
