K&H 'Chassis Black' has worked for me, goes on thick, even, and tough. Can't comment on POR15 but I've always heard good things about it.

I have used K&H stone guard, also brake caliper paint works real well with regards to finish but can't comment on chip resistance since I'm yet to find that out.

I'm using POR15 "Chassiscoat" on all that sort of stuff on the 180B SSS project, also used it on the LCA's on the 1600.

Good, but not cheap (especially if you buy a tin just for the control arms)

I've always found paint to be good.

Found out last night my mate has some black POR 15 left over from when he did his diff so mite give it a go. I know what you mean about it not being cheap $40 for 200ml of the stuff :o just heard it was alot more resistant than powdercoat and i wanted to do them once so i dont have to pull my new bushes out to do them again later on once the underneath of the car is done :D

Make sure you paint over the black POR15 stuff with something else afterwards. I know there's not much chance of sunlight getting under your car, but it's not very UV resistant and likes a top coat.
