i was wondering about the lagalities of removing the standard rear seat out of my 240k and installing 2 adr approved "recaro" style seats.

As with most mods and just like if you remove the rear seat alltogether, you still need to get it engineered.

I've seen it done before. It looks very trick and I would imagine with an engineers report, would be legal.

fairly sure the seats and mounts will have to just comply with VSB no.5 - in most cases baseframes are required to be engineered

it will have to have an inspection at the local rta to ensure compliance and because you are going from 5 to 4 seats.

better off building the original seat up and custom covering it in recaro material

fitting a seat is dirrerent to remoulding a seat.

what about no rear seat at all and just block it off and carpet it???.... it would still have to be inspected... but what about engineered (as there is nothing thats really been modified)??

if you removed rear seat you have to remove rear belts too

will require an inspecion to get it classed as a 2 seater instead of 4/5

engineering... i cant see how it is necessary

spot on dude, just confirmed with the rta, all that has to be done is remove rear belts/seats and plug the bolt holes for the rear seatbelts, does require an inspection

it wont be too bad, just make sure your car is quiet, no obvious rust, good tyres, front belts work, clean (why people dont clean their card b4 an inspection i dont know)

they will stick their head in it, go "ok", and write out a plate, which they then stick in the door jamb

they will pick up other stuff but only if it is obvious enough to draw attention

Don't you have to also pull the rear door cards off, take all the *shaft thingo's* out that go from the handles and locks to the rear door latches, lock the doors, and then put the door cards back on so that no-one can get in the back without a seat or seatbelts? (even though they could still get back there through the front)

*cannot remember correct terminology for those parts at the moment*

I don't see what the point of making your rear doors unopenable is, even from a safety point of view. People can still climb in from the front.

And what if you want to put something in there? I assume you'd do it so you had more space to carry stuff.

What he said... Must comply with the VS standards. NOT FIA or ADR.

I agree with what was said in that building up the seats with material and foam. Would probably be cheaper too.
