hey guys

I am on the search for wheels on my 1600. I have datsport front r31 conversion and datsport r31 rear conversion. I was curious as to see what everyone else has used just as an idea on what sizes and offsets fit and any pictures would be nice. I am not trying to steal your wheel ideas i just want to know about sizes that fit and offsets. I want to run x8 wide rears as my 1600 is powered by an sr. I have been told that fitting x8's without flaring wont fit can anyone confirm this?

Cheers guys any help would be great

8's won't fit without guard rolling or stupidly skinny tyres.
Try searching the forums, Baz from Datsport has recommended sizes in the past like 17x7 +40offset etc?
This topic should be in the driveline section btw...

16x7" with a +35 offset for the win.

Jump on Yahoo Japan and search for 16x7 +35
That's where I got my Watanabe's and they fit like the car was designed around them (haha ha)

i'm on to this part of the decision process too... what's the handling like going from 15" to 16" or 17" on the 1600?
anyone have understeer/handling/grip issues going with the lower profile tyres on the larger wheels?
my thinking is along the lines of less sidewall = lesser cornering ability/lesser rear wheel grip... correct me if i'm wrong, but from experience it's what i've found.

i know tyre choice is important too, the 225/45/17's RE070's on my old STI were AMAZING... and the RE001's i replaced them with were.... well.... just above average.
i don't think i'd be happy going under a x/45/x tyre though... i want great handling

I have found that my car feels much better with smaller wheels. I cant fit 13s but 14s feel awesome, 15s average and 16s were terrible. (All with similar rolling diameter)

Depends on your car setup.
-Suspension/Shocks/spring rates/geometry
etc.

Well, I'm fitting the Datsport front coilovers and the r31 disc rear end.

A pair of second hand Volk TE37's would be sweet, they come in a 16x7 +33 from what I can tell. This is the style/design I'm looking for. 5 or 6 spoke with a lip.
Otherwise I found these... 15x6.5 http://www.tempetyres.com.au/products_c ... rt_no=1896
An email back from tempe tells me they are +40. The sums seem to work unless I'm doing something wrong.
Would +40 even +35 look silly on the back of a 1600? tucked all the way in there???

I tried some wheels from a local guy here with 16x7 +45 and the tyre touched the strut... and the face of the hub to wheel still had the better part of an inch to meet.

16x7 +33's on the car would be ok. You'll have to flare the front guards though (like I did)
+25's on the back are ideal, but you'd have to lip the guards.

hmmm... so without flaring... what offsets will JUST work? The guards that were on the car are fibreglass. Maybe I need to go shopping for some flared ones in the near future.
15x6/6.5 I guess. Is the 7" width just too much for space there is?

I have had the rust repair guy lip the rears while he was doing the work, so that should be all good.

so if i'm chasing the quickest time down the strip, you guys reckon a 16x7 ish wheel with moderate profile is the go??
biggest concern for me is....my shell is in hi fill about to be painted, will i need more than a lip roll to get atleast 215/50, 225/50 tyres under there? need to modify now before paint.

anyone know how mick mcgregor with the green NIZ 510 has done it? he has some fat rubber under his and it doesnt look extra special flared.

He made up some custom rear flares to fit. Plus I think he modified his rear arms too.
If you are chasing the quickest times, I recommend fittng at least a 16x7 (or 15x7 for that matter as rubber is cheaper and easier to come by)
Some people fit a 16x8 in there! Either way, you have to roll the guard, or cut it out and modify it. Sled510 on here has just done that. Looks pretty good too. Not 100% sure what width he's running, but he's got a fair bit of dish!
