I have three kids and, as a prospective Datsun 1600 owner, would like to know if the sedan came with three seat belts in the back as standard?

If not, does anybody know if a third seat belt can be legally (in Queensland) fitted in the back seat? Ideally, it would be lap-sash and not just the lap variety.

Thanks,

Ian

Ian:

Im pretty sure every 1600 sedan I've owned (70/71 models) has had (where they havent been removed) three factory fitted rear seat belts. Lap/sash on the outer and a lap belt in the centre.

My 1600 wagon has three as well.

I have NFI how you are going to fit a lap sash in the centre due to the lack of mounting point for the sash part.

The pre 69 models may not (although I am not 100% sure here) have had rear seat belts though I will stand corrected.

Cheers

Jason

all 1600's Ive seen in NZ, have never had any seat belts fitted in the back at all......but they have all had the mounting holes/threads for them.

if u look down the back of the seat, you will be able to tell by the amount of threaded holes

Yep they were fitted with three in AUS. I have owned 68's to 72's and they all had them fitted.

NZ don't matter as sheep don't need set belts  ay bro

If I were taking a sheep out, I'd want it to be strapped in. The last thing I'd want to do is brain it before I'd had my way.

1600 head's 1968 1600 doesn't have any rear seatbelts and I don't believe it ever has. You'd be better to ask him though, since it's his car.

its 68-69 that have no rear belts isn't it?
or just the 68's?

law was in aus in 1970 anyone in a car must wear a belt, so it would explain why my 70 has rear belts
but some mates had 69 with no rear belts..

They all have the welded nuts in the rear pillars, but the 68's definitely didn't come out factory with rear belts.

When I got a blue slip done on my mothers 1968 deluxe (no rear belts), the blue slip guy spoke with the RTA and their book said mid 69 was where they became compulsory.
