I've not been able to find out a great deal about using S12 Gazelle struts in a 1600 from previous posts, so I have a few questions:

1) Does the conversion use the 254 or 280mm rotor diameter version of the strut?

2) How many pistons do the calipers for the 254/280mm rotors have?

3) Will the 280mm rotors fit inside 14" 200B GX alloys?

4) Can the S12 springs be used? How is the ride height with standard springs compared to a stock 1600?

5) What years/variants of Gazelle had the 280mm rotors?

Thanks in advance for any answers you may have.

Hey, dont know much about this conversion, but I can tell you that If it uses the 280mm rotors, it is unlikely you will fit 14s. I run ~276mm verada discs and I cant run anything less than 15s.

If you find out the specific details about the conversion, post them up, I'd like to see them

Mikan,

Not sure where you heard of S12 280mm rotors from?? I haven't seen these, and the DBA catalogue says there was only ever 250mm rotors fitted. Doesn't mean that 280mm's never existed tho...

1) I think there's only one version?

2) 1 spot sliding caliper.

3) Some people have managed to fit 280mm rotors under 14" rims before, but it's involved custom fabricating. You'll be lucky.

4) Buggered if I know. I *think* the springs are the same diameter as 1600 ones, but I would guess they'd jack you're front ride height up a lot.

5) See above.

Not sure why fat20l is so keen on advising to swap to R31 brakes. They're basically the same as S12's...

My bad , I have confused the Gazelle with the 180SX
Kind of rules out that option...

What about S13 180SX or Silvia struts with R32/Z32 calipers - I know they fit on a bluebird with very little effort, but what about on a 1600? Are the S13 control arms required? (if so do they require modification?)

I'm a little sceptical about the S13/[RZ]32 option because it seems so easy but I've heard so little about it :?

Mikan,

Yeah, I've read about the Nissan 4 pots fitted to S13 struts too. I haven't really looked at that setup myself, so I can't say.

What I can say is that S13 struts look as though they'll screw up your camber. The info I have says that the angle between the spindle and the strut tube is just like a bluey - and will give you more positive camber. So if you plan on S13 struts, factor in some offset strut tops too (when fitting to a 1600).

I do know that the Nissan 4 pots also fit on R31 GTS struts (GTS struts are different to normal R31 struts) - see the Datrats site for more info on that. Good luck in getting GTS struts tho...

If you're keen on the Nissan 4 pots, the other option is Datsport's setup. They use a standard R31 strut, and an adapter bracket.

There's also MadDat's RX7 4 pots.

Cruiser & hilux 4 pots (254mm rotor).

VL turbo 1 spots (276mm rotor).

And on and on....

Best of luck!!
