The usual Datsun/nissan gear leaver is threaded. Just like most others are. Looks like your gear knob is jammed down nice and hard. Just try unscrewing it. You won't destroy the clevis pin holing the leaver into the Gearbox, so don't worry about breaking that. The other option is that it is glued on. In which case, you could try several options to getting it out. If unscrewing doesn't work, take the clevis pin out of the bottom of the geabox where the leaver mounts, Is held in by either a circlip or a split pin. Pull the leaver out, and try putting something on it to remove the glue or put it in your vice and use liberal usage of a rubber mallet...

The #1 tool!

Yeah. that smaller rod should be the threaded part. Should be an 8-10mm thread before it steps down to the 12mm shaft size. I'll show you a pic if you're desperate...

Last resort, get another gear stick from Pick a Part.
Most 5 speed Jap built boxes will provide one. C110/MR30 Skylines, 240K/Z, Stanza 5 speed. Forget the locally built 5 speed bluebird and 4 speed Stanza, its a borg warner box - nothing like the Japanese design.
