hey fellas, how good is a non turbo SR20DE in comparison to say a stock L18. Obviously, it would have a fair bit more power, but is it worth the swap? I'm contemplating doing this swap, or if now, doing everything else (EVERYTHING!.. suspension, brakes, wheels, interior, stereo, fully detailed respray) first, and just wait till i'm older for the turbo so i can insure it. (I'm only 18 atm).

Cheers,
Jase

The srde is a grunty unit and if you fit it you will just about have everything set up for swaping to a DET later on. Then again you could just supercharge the DE later.

I did a CA18DE in my 1200, when I was 20. It got better economy than the A14 that it replaced. I kept it that way until I was 25, then I put a CA18DET in.

I say Get the DE, run it until you can afford the DET, and do the conversion to Turbo then. S15 SR20DETs and 6 speeds should be cheap by then.

Don't Supercharge or Turbo the DE, it's a false economy for stubborn people who are in search of something other than power and reliability.

Chris.

hmm.. thats weird, i replied, and it didnt show up.. anyway, what i said was that it looks like the N/A conversion is the way to go.. Also, what's involved with putting a SR gearbox into a manual 1600? Is there any difference with the newer 6 speed (i.e., different shape?)

the 6 speed uses the same casing as the 5 speed....just the gears are smaller...hence weaker

(correct me if im wrong??)
