PostPosted: Fri May 23, 2003 9:25 pm
Its finally time to start working on my datsun

One of the first things is to rewire the car, totally.

Where (internet, what books) is a good wiring diagram?
Something thats legable mainly.

Any suggestions?

Adam

If you are going to rewire the car totally, you can do a lot better than Nissan did originally
The headlight wiring in particular, could do with a total re-design.
Use lots of relays and a modern blade type auto. fuse box to bring him out of the era of Lucas electrics.
I have several wiring diagrams in my manuals, but if I was in your position, I would just use them as a guide.
Let me know via email if you want a copy, I'll have to get one photocopied. :?:

Thats the plan.

I'm going to bring as much as I can inside the car.
Not sure if i can get a circuit breaker type fuse box or not (maybe thats goinf over the top), and will mount that in a new glove box. Relays will
be on the firewall infront of the passenger with guards against kicking.
Also going to have a thing coming down from the center to the tunnel
for extra guages, killswitch and the rest.

That should allow me to lower the amount of wires in the engine bay to a minimum.

Like you say, I was looking to use the diagrams as a guide and do it better. But it would be nice to see how datsun wanted to do it and will make looking at the mess of wires easier.

Will contact you via email.

Thanks

Adam

Well I did re-arrange a lot of stuff to interwork with the 200B column switchgear I fitted, internal reg. on the alt. and thermo fan etc.
I retained the OE glass fuse block but changed the linking on the back of the fuses.
I fitted a few relays to unload the lighting and ignition/start circuits in the switch gear
A very good quality blade fuse box is available from Hella P/N 8723
It has 12 fuses, 4 in one feed and 8 in the other, ratings determined by you.
It is only about 50mm x 60mm so it could fit where the old one was or be moved inside the cabin.
Not cheap though
You may be able to pick up a fuse box from a late model wreck.
Get the connectors that plug into it as well.
