Hmm, not sure about all this.

I had 180b Retractable Seat Belts in my old 72 1600. They didn't have a cover over the reels, but weren't a problem. They missed the seats when you were retracting them and were fine to move up and down. Didn't have any problems with them.

Thing is, they were mounted in the B Pillar. Not a problem. I was under the understanding that on later model 1600's, there was a hole put in the B pillar to take the bolts for the seat belts? Because mine had it there, before i took the old hood lining off. Unless someone drilled and tapped it. But it really didn't look like it (because how would you find a suitable spot to drill without totally stuffing and removing the old trim, and it had original colour paint in it as if it was there when the car was sprayed from factory.
Can anyone clarify if this is a possibility?

The hole was perfect, like it was designed for the top part of the seat belt, same pitch and thread of a seat belt bolt. Was roughly in the middle of the pillar,in between the top of the metal scuff plate to the roof.

You can order new Klippan LH and RH retractable belts with the drop down upper mounting.

If you have fitted later model front seats, (only a restorer wouldn't), they are much deeper in the rear than the originals. I jack the rear seat mounts just high enough for the seat to be above the retracting mechanism, even at full rear extension.

I vaguely remember owning a 1600 that had a seatbelt mounting point in the pillar (captive nut arrangement).

I've also owned plenty with a hole drilled in the pillar and a bolt and nut arrangement. The bolt head sat almost flush on the external part of the pillar.

The photo below is the race car shell and shows the factory mount point above the rear door, and the hole in the pillar.

I peeled the 5h1tty old foam away from the pillar on the other shell (also a 71 model) and its the same as the photo.

Probably doesnt answer your question though RJB510.

Yeah mate, thanks for the pic.

Pretty much just affirms my belief that there is a proper hole there for it. There was no other way to explain it.

I found a pic of my old 1600 with the roof lining off, shows the original trim and the seat belt holders on the pillar. Original holes in the roof are visible. but the belt is suspended. i'll upload it as soon as i remember how. Been a while since i've been on the Forums.

Bolt would have gone right to the end of the pillar, almost to the exterior part, your right. Only thing was, mine wasn't a 'nut' job. It was definately tapped for a machined bolt.

HI mate go to repco and order Klipan part number K4264 these are HQ belts with the drop sash. They are perfect for a 1600. Baz sells these with his seatbelt kit. If you are a tall bugger I recommend you buy his kit or at least the mod plate. I'm a short bastard so I didn't need the mod plate. I paid around $80 for each belt.

Digging up and old thread. But it's related so its ok...

Can anyone tell me the Klippan Part number for the rear seat belts for a 1600 so I can order them? I've done some looking and from what I can tell it is K1516 for the 180mm Buckle length and K1635 for the 275mm buckle (on the seat part) Total length of the non retractable belt is 2.6m) Can anyone confirm this.

And has anyone used Inertia reel belts in the rear of their cars? If so, which one did you use? I'm not sure if the mounting point will allow an inertia reel to work correctly or not?

I ordered the following for the rear seats in my 1600 Kilpan #K1635S left and right #K1637 centre lap belt. Bought them from Repco. Around $200 for the lot. This was around 8 years ago.

Yep, thats pretty much what I was thinking for the rear belts. Are the webbing buckles too long though at 275mm long?

Now, just need someone who has done retractable belts!

Nup they are a good fit. Don't know about the retractables. The new mount would need to be signed off on to be legal.

Yeah, that engineering is the issue, to be retractable i'd assume you'd need to mount them flat onto the rear parcel shelf or in the boot and run them up past the parcel shelf on a custom bracket rather than on the pillar as they probably wouldn't work. But i'm not entirely sure.

Can someone please verify which Klippan seat belt model is most suitable for 1600 front fitment? I'm wanting to buy some from a mate (K1513) but not sure if they are correct.

It seems there have been part number changes recently so would appreciate peoples thoughts before I buy.

Here are the models i've come across.

K4264 - No longer avail
K1512
K1513
K1513S
