hey all im trying to do some reaserch on s4 calipers with golf disks on 200b struts, i found this http://www.datfusion.com/forums/index.p ... &#entry689 problem is i googled the disk part number and its not comeing up as a golf plus the second to last post a guy is qouteing a differant number and there 5 stud,
i did a search on here and came up with yet another part number

you can get golf mk3 vr6 disks on ebay from the UK for dirt cheap but there not the size thats listed on the above link

has anyone mastered this conversion and can shed a bit more light on the conversion? or better yet can tell me the actual disk needed? much appreciated

Yes, this is the conversion I did years ago
They are a 5 stud rotor so your favourite machine shop is required to redrill to the 4 stud PCD that the hub requires, NOT 114.3mm which is for the wheel.
The rotor I used is the 94 - 97 Golf 2.8 VR6 Mk3, which is in the DBA Cattledog as DBA835.
http://www.dba.com.au/product-search
Coupled with the dogbone I designed, the conversion will bolt up to 200B struts easy peasey :cheers

You're right DBA835
I used Hackham Precision Engineering to make up the dogbones for me,
7 Samuel St, Hackham SA 5163, Australia
8382 9406
The dogbone is designed to have an offset of 7mm initially for trial fitting.
You mount everything up and check that the caliper is centered on the rotor.
If it isn't, the offset can be machined until it is centered.
I always advise making up a prototype dogbone from ply/MDF etc. so that you can be 100% familiar with what is required before paying $$ on the machining of the real thing

I used API Engines/Rising Sun Imports to machine the rotors.
11 Somerset Cct, Lonsdale SA 5160
8326 2028
Terry, at API, is an ex neighbor of mine and he enlarged the centre hole and re-drilled the rotors for me to suit the 200B hubs I gave him.
It all fitted perfectly

I'm sure there are other Shops that would do this for you closer to home if you aren't "down South".

Do you need the CAD drawing of the dogbone?
If you do, I'll have to email it to you, I can't post .cad files to the Forum.

That CAD file is it.
You will need to download CadStd Lite to read it.
That application is available for free @
http://www.cadstd.com/dlfrom.html

Don't forget, dummy everything up in el cheapo wood before getting too excited :cheers

Nice conversion very neat.

One thing but, depending on what offset wheels you are running it could be an advantage to run the original series 4/5 rx7 disc as these are floating discs and sit on the outside of hub. If you have a disc brake rear end you then can run matching offset front wheel drive wheels (same as Hyundai Sonata 4 stud offset front and back). The front wheels will clear the front struts without spacers and but will need longer wheel studs.

p.s. Using the golf disc there is slightly less work involved.

Graeme did yours work with the 7mm? or did you need to adjust this? and what material did you have the dog leg out of?

cheers

I didn't need to adjust the nominal 7mm, 'cause I was clever and rooly accurate

I'm still using the plywood mockups

Just kiddin' :giggle: :giggle:

I asked the Engineering Shop to use solid stock and he gave me a wink and said he had just the stuff.
More, I know not :?

I have instead used Honda Legend ( late 1980s) vented discs and Rx7 S4 calipers and the conversion is very very easy. I've made up my own brackets out of 5mm steel flat and it spaces the caliper perfectly with the disc. The hardest part is drilling 4 holes - 2 to hold the bracket to the spacer, 2 to hold the spacer to the strut holes.

The discs need the centre hole machined out to fit the hub, 4 new hub holes drilled and if required machine down the outer disc if requiring the best clearance depending on rims sizes/clearance. Cost - the discs were $80 each brand new, the brackets $5, caliper kit $80. The machining is easy as for any decent machinist.

The easiest front disc conversion I have come across.
