Hi guys, just bought my first Datsun a 120Y coupe, auto. Got it off eBay as a bit of a "spur of the moment" purchase! Long story there. Drove it from Penrith to my home in Lithgow and by the time I got to Leura I had a big grin on my face. Is a pretty original car, a little battle scared on the outside but neat and tidy on the inside. So far I have changed the points, plugs, rotor, cap, condenser, leads, air, fuel and oil filter as well as the oil. Gave it a tune up after but still need to get carby better set up. I have also changed radius rod bushes and the sway bar link bushes. Lower ball joints and tie rod ends on order. Love the simplicity of the car. I have had 38 cars over my life and enjoyed them all.

My plans are, other than converting it to manual, is to keep it totally original. I like my cars the way they came from the factory.

Found a A series 4 speed at Northern Wreckers yesterday, plus they have a 120Y coupe body & a pair (really 1 & 1/2 as they'd cut it though the B pillar & taken the front) of body shells. Hopefully there's enough parts for you to do the manual conversion. A set of period mags like Hotwires or Jellybeans would also go better with the car. I suggest keep an eye on E-bay or the classifieds of Ozdat or Datsun1200.com for wheels, as most wreckers will have sent anything of this vintage to scrap. Have fun with the car, too. Bring it down to the SDC car show at the Prospect Hotel, it wont be out of place. Remember Granpa spec is just Granny spec with a set of mags :D .

Hi b310gx, thanks for all that info. Any chase of finding out which wreckers? I hear what you say about the wheels but will be leaving them as is for the present as I like them. I am already trawling eBay. I haven't joined any club as yet but will be. Cheers, Paul
