The Datsport 487 lift 270 duration should be good enough. Dont get anything smaller than 450 or 460. Those lifts should have come stock in a 510 in my opinion.
Cost is in rocker arms, lash pads and springs

Why replace the rocker arms????
The fact that Nissan Motorsport hasnt ever had a replacement part for them should testify to this!
If anyone has broken a rocker arm , I bet it was due to poorly setup arm geometry, not a weakness in the arm iteslf.

Save you money for some good springs and retainers.

As Racer Brown says "Dont overcam your datsun motor"

better to have a smaller cam and use it all, than a big motha lumper and hardly use it.

I had a 72 degree cam in my L18 with twin 40's. The dizzy had been recurved to suit. I loved that cam, was fun as. Nothing under 3 grand and then the thing just let out the biggest roar, and if you wanna save fuel just stay under the cam. Drove it every day to work with no probs...

IMHO I believe that for a good street L series the 25/65 with high lift is
the way to go. Good torque & good power to 6500, the idle is not to bad either
68s are good for 1600 engine with 38mm SUs. But not relly streetable.
72s and above are race/rally only & best used with twin .45 dcoe.
Now before every one jumps on me I know the 72 is a favorite, but the idle & transition generally needs to be too rich for street use.

Much better fuel consumption & flexibility for the street with the 25/65

I use new rocker with a new cam.
I personally wont use a reground rockers myself. But never tried this cause I want to do this once and not a couple times.
One guy reground some rockers for me and it looked so bad that ai could see the marks and said to myself this is not going in my motor and found some cheap for 13$US which is cheap. Most are 20-29$US.

Im running a 460 lift 260dur in/270 duration ex had think that cam should have come stock(My 521 L16 truck )

My other 510 is a 475 lft and 275 with dual mikunis
and other 510 is the same but lower rear diff which wind up fine.

ive got a Wade 640A in my L

its a "custom" grind they won't sell any more of and wondered where I got mine from. apparently they developed it for some rally team

they told me the specs

.590 valve lift  and 290 duration

When they told me that, I had to measure the lift to confirm, but it is true

what amazes me is that it pulls strongly from 2000rpm and isn't at all nasty to drive around town. It loves to buzz to 7000 :)
Idle is fairly smooth at only 900rpm.

so i reckon more lift is always preferable with todays good oils the valvetrain life is still OK

Are roller rockers available from anywhere for the L? I'd love to run some on my L28 -> HUGE ramp rates. :D

Malvern Racing on the east coast of the US had made some(rollor rockers) but said it required aspecial grind to make work correctly. ck the website . I didnt believe it till I saw photos of them.
The guy said stick with the nissan stuff. due to proplems

Ge the Datsport 72deg Cam. I think thats the 487 lift and 270 duration.
Can always lower the Gear ratio to get in the power band faster. Be real good on a L20 with 40mm weber/ mikunis to get the air Vol up faster

The cam is not going to cost you anymore. I say get at least that one.
Can alway adv the cam to the #2 or #3 position to bring the power band up sooner also.
On aftermarket cams most people dont use #1 on the sprocket. Be honest I could never tell the diff but thats what the book says
But at the end of the day you will still want a SR20. which you guys have a huge market of part suppliers and wuld be a good option to go for.

Malvern Racing only say they make rollers for the A series according to archive.org (their website is down). Any other thoughts?
