This is my 1971 Datsun 1600 aka barney the dinosaur... I bought it a week ago. I am trying to fix it up and I am in the process of finding a new diff with an lsd, an upgraded/newer fuse box, electronic ignition, new bonnet that isnt creased, fuel pump and a fuel inlet pipe to stop the fuel coming out the fuel cap hahah. I am unsure if i want to keep the L18 engine in it or do an engine conversion. I am only new to the world of datsuns.

Any feedback or help is appreciated.
Thanks.

Welcome aboard, car looks great.

There is a lot of information on diffs so check out some of the build threads and also search away. Seeing your so new to Datsuns might be a good idea to enjoy what you have for a while before making any big decisions on the engine conversion.

Cheers,

Trent

Congrats on taking on a Datsun 1600 project.

Try Datsport to fix your fuel leaks in the filler neck. Its the only really effective fix for a 40 year old perished rubber hose.

i used standard nissan intercooler (off a 180sx Ca18det) black rubber pipe when i changed my tank in the wagon, fitted perfect, make sure you do not use a silicon based joiner as they dont like fuel
