OK, it was the Sodium Hydroxide, pressure can stuff - $3 a can. Used about 5 cans to do 7 wheels, 2 applications on each wheel (the second application was only to get the last remains of the brake dust off the deeper nooks and crannies).
I'm going to have the sexiest looking trailer ever, using as many Datsun components as possible
(TRX wheels / combination of 200B and R31 hubs / 240K brake rotors).
Tried it on an old 200B gearbox I bought last week, it came up a treat as well
