G'day

Just wondering if there is anyway of making a L-series long 5speed into a short 5 speed

I thought I had a long dog leg box in my ute (which was noisey) so when the opportunity arose I brought another long dog leg and a long bluebird gear box

Then when i went to swap the bluebird box in I found out my box was actually a short dog leg box!

If its not possible to shorten them is it possible to swap gears n bearings over?

Cheers

The weak link in the FS5W63A dogleg is the small counter shaft bearing at the front. Replacing it will likely get rid of the noise.

No way to make a long into a short without swapping in the shorter mainshaft and the shorter tailstock to cover it. I don't know what the 1-3 ratios are on the long but they would probably fit the shorter mainshaft. This is a lot of work and swapping in used bearings is not worth the trouble. Less trouble to shorten your driveshaft and run a longer transmission.
