Hey Guys,

I have recently got my hands on a l20b to stick in my 1600 an been reading up on what I need to change to get it too fit..

Iv read Ill need the l16 oil pan, sump an engine mounts an it should bolt right in...

I have a 5spd in it already an am getting extractors with the engine so hopefully its all able to bolt in an line up with minimum fuss.

I have a down draft Weber DGAV30A (thats what it has stamped on it an thats all of my knowledge on it :? ) on my current engine an would like to know if this will suffice on the l20b or should I try find another one?? like a 45mm side draft weber??

Anything Im missing or helpful tips appreciated..

thanks.

What car did the L20B come out of ?

One issue may be that the extractors may not fit into a 1600 too well if, for example, they are made to clear the steering gear / x-member / firewall / etc in a bluebird.

If the extractors off the L16 are to suit a 1600, they should go pretty close to fitting with the L20B. The only difference is that the L20B is about 19mm taller,so the extractors will also be "raised" in the engine bay by 19mm. As long as this still leaves clearance to the floorpan / gearbox bellhousing / etc, you should be right to bolt them on.

The Weber you have will be fine, at least for a while.

They will physically fit, but there are two types of alternator - internally regulated (ie the regulator is built into the alternator) and externally regulated (alternator doesn't have a regulator, its a separate box under the bonnet). You need the correct one to suit you car's wiring.

In USA the L 16 use the smaller bolts in the alternator ears and the bolts in the block 6mm and L20 is 8mm i think.
Later L16s might have the thicker bolts at least I seen the late ones did(imported crate motors from the (90s)

Everythin was goin smoothly untill I tried to put the flywheel onto the l20b an they have different amount of bolts so a l16 flywheel dosent fit a l20b. Now I need a new ine cos my car is in pieces. .. Heeeelllppp!! Haha
