Hi all

does anyone know which manufacturer steelies will fit on the back of a 1600? I remember a while ago reading somewhere that Hyundai or Kia steelies will fit?

something like this...

http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Datsun-Chase ... 6016.l4276

Cheers.

What diameter wheel you after? What brakes do you have?
R31 is def the best offset in 15".
Kia and saab would probably have alot of positive offset being front wheel drives.

Ah good point Nick, forgot about the big ugly R31 rear calipers i have. Looking at the previous topics you posted, R31 steelies look like the go, but they are 15". I had TRX rims on my car when it was being rolled around, they didn't fit over the R31 rear calipers. TRX are 15" are they not?

Standard R31 steel wheels (with the squarish ventilation holes) are 14". Steel spare wheel from an R31 fitted with factory alloy wheels are 15" I believe. TRX are 15"

14" steel R31 wheels fit over R31 brakes on an R31 (obviously), where did they foul on your 1600 ? Maybe due to the offset of the calipers ?

Makes sense that all R31 steelies will fit over all R31 brakes. They come in 14inch and 15inch (Ti and Sillo spare wheels only).
The 15's are the good looking ones (like commodore 'interceptor' stockies) but like all steel wheels they are heavy as.
I used to run them on my 1600 wagon but sold em.
TRX have slightly more positive offset compared to R31 and probably a different spoke design with less clearance.
From memory Trx were +35mm and R31 TI were +30mm offset...

very true. pretty sure it was the handbrake mechanism/lever on top of caliper that hit the TRX rim.

yeah it's very strange how R31 steelies clear R31 rear brakes   might have to borrow a mates 31 steelie or spare then..

cheers!

would bet money they dont fit. ive got standard 1600 trailing arms, standard R31 calipers & mounting brackets. Although i do have DR30 stub axles, can't see this affecting it. The TRX rims are too thick, was glad to see them go for $50

I'm not doubting you. I'm just surprised because they're such a popular cheap rim that I've seen on plenty of 1600's. They must have all retained the drum rears..I've always just ass u me'd that they would fit.

I have mocked my 1600 up with 15x7 up front and 15x8 on the rear currently both at 0 offset. they are the black drift rims you see on ebay. only available as a 15x8 0 or +10 offset I think. approx $80 ea. I made the 15x7 out of a pair of 15x8's. they are very heavy but I only want them for a baseline wheel until I find a set of ssr rims. 15x8 +10 fit the rear of a 1600 but need to roll the lip and run a bit of camber.

similar to this &ipn=psmain&icep_vectorid=229515&kwid=902099&mtid=824&kw=lg]http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/4xSTEEL-DRIF ... 1080841841

15x8 are really to big though that's why I made mine 15x7

TRX's definitely fit on my 1600. I have rebuilt datsport R31 brakes and rear arms fits easily.

Cheers,

Richard

DATO4 did you have handbrake cables fitted and tensioned up when you did this?
This would pull the handbrake lever down and away from the rim lip a bit.
Ive had trx rims in the past but it was when i had drums...

No, i didnt have the handbrake cables connected. The problem with my handbrake setup is; because i've had a sheet metal tunnel made to allow fitment of the RB25 box, the Datsport N14 handbrake lever won't fit in the spot as per instructions on Datsport website. So, mounting the handbrake lever will be last on the list as i will have to shorten the cable, being mounted further back.
Anyway, the whole purpose of my question about steelies is that TRX rims are so ugly, and i've seen a few comments on here over the years that they are they wrong offset? I can confirm they don't fit on the Mad Dat 200B strut/RX7 front brake setup. They foul on strut tube.
If they worked for Richard, they probably would have worked for me but never would have found out due to handbrake lever fark around.

so now on the look out for some 14" R31 steelies. thanks for feedback
