Afternoon,

I should get under it to measure it but anyone have an idea on what 5 speed I need to replace the 4 speed with? L18 in a dual cab 720. I'm assuing a long 5 speed from any L series engine will work but are there other options?

Hi mate. Depends if the 4 speed you have is a short or long box. If the long, than any bluebird that runs an L20 will work. The rear extension is the bit that can be a pita. Due to the length of the drive shaft mating up to it. The extension lengths are 9 and 11 inches from the sandwich plate iirc.

I have a 720 kingcab gearbox at home that needs a new input bearing as its noisy. I swapped it out for a bluey one as i was short on time prior to taking the old girl on a big interstate holiday. It has the long extension on it.

Lastly, you dont have the 4 on the tree setup do you?

Pretty sure I have a 720 L series 5 speed in storage somewhere if you need one.
It was working fine in the 720 it came out of.

Nah, four on the floor. Where are you Sanouske? Melbourne is fine for me Turbo510, have relos there and the olds head down often for work with a ute. Have you the shifter, clutch fork etc for it or will the 4 speed stuff fit? I will measure mine up when I get a chance and then organize to buy one.

Long box it is. Rough measurement was 790 from front of box to where tailshaft goes in. 780mm long box

Just a gearbox mate, not sure if the 4spd stuff fits
