Hi everyone,

Bit of a novice so please bear with me. Have searched the forums but not found what im looking for.

Posted a while back about coolant leaks. Originally one was coming from an old rusted core plug. Fixed that and then discovered actually had a blown head gasket. Good times.

Got the head remachined at the shop. Unfortunately the valve clearances need to be set now and I've no idea what they're meant to be or how to do it on this type of motor. Can it be done cold before I put the head back on? What steps do I follow?

Cheers.

Jimmy.

You can set them before re-fitting the head.
The setting and procedure is in this manual: -
https://www.mediafire.com/folder/fxurc6 ... 18_Engines

See section EM.

My advice is to download the entire Manual and study it well, especially the area to do with head installation

One the engine is running again, warm it up, rip off the rocker cover and check/set them again.
Find the setting in the manual for the hot clearances.

Use 0.20mm inlet and 0.25mm exhaust cold.
0.25 and 0.30 hot
