Hey all, just need some advice on motors. Doin a resto/mod rebuild of a 73 Datsun 1200 coupe and I'm stuck as which engine to go with. Originally I was tossing up between a CA18DET or an L20B motor. I didn't think of putting an SR20 motor as I was told you can no longer get them engineered for the road in a Datsun in NSW. But I've noticed there are quite a few Dato's with the SR20 motor so I'm beginning to think the guy that told me was full of sh*t. Can I get the SR20 engineered for the road in NSW?
Cheers :D

SR20 non turbo can be, but not turbo.

CA18 turbo can be since it just falls within the rules.

If you're keen you could always try SR16 turbo.

That was back in 2003, I think you may find the regs were changed in July 2011 nationally.
The 2lt non turbo may be ok but I think the 1200 and 120y are just shy of that vehicle weight to get it passed now.
You need collapsible steering columns etc now too to pass.

Talk to an engineer that can sign off on the car for Rta. Asking here or non rat scheme accredited engineers is not worthless but not accurate either. That's why only certain engineers can sign off on the cars now.
