Just so peeps know that cars in Japan of the datsun make
have been skyrocketing in the last 2 years.
Its going to get harder to get those hard to get parts
as important part of population is retired and looking
for that nostalgic project in their spare time.

Some parts are commanding crazy prices!
the LY heads for the Zs are super expensive
and just incase someone wants a better look
for the RB engines Zs there is "supposedly"!!!!
a rb30 kit to make it look like the "LY" for those
who cant afford the LY stuff which is insane $$$

Since getting back into the Datsun scene after 13 years, I can honestly say that parts even in Aus have gone up. Complete cars have increased big time. I sold my 1600 13 years ago for $6k. Today I would easily sell it for double that. I also strongly believe that now Datsun's are becoming a brand that not only young enthusiasts love, but the older crowd love them and want them for those nostalgic reasons as you mentioned.
I have said in another post that I have had quite a few guys walking past my place who see my Datto and ask if they can come up and have a look. They not only look, but the 5 or so older guys who have come up all have a similar story of how they used to have one, and how much they would love to get their hands on another one.

They are as simple as a Harley in terms of pushrods and simplicity but reliable and not tarted up :)

Must admit that once we're done with restoring our 1600/510 I may look to do another project closer to home. Aftermarket parts for old Holdens and Fords are rather plentiful in Australia as are kits to fit upgraded suspension and engines! And a Holden HZ Premier was my second car after a 1600....

Although a slammed W108 or w114 Mercedes with a small block chev will always be the dream but no way could I afford to do a project like that

I would prefer to build a locost (lotus 7 mild copy) but style it like a late 50s Nissan Flying Feather.
Nimble, quick and 50s looking will cover my love for light, simple, nimble and reliable fun cars.

lotus 7 frame mixed with this

Looking at the number of s30 body Datsun Z, where owners are hacking rear guards to fit overfenders to run wide rims, the shells are ruined, this can only place emphasis on original Z car prices increasing.
Many coming up for sale in Aus and USA, as "project" cars are so far gone, a spend of $10-25k is needed, just on body shell.
They are getting high $$ on sales f well presented ones.

Also ( biased!) the Datsun Roadsters prices just keep going up and up.
I have a very original, unmolested 1968 twin Solesx 2000, not being used, cant see myself needing/useing it, am OK to let it go, but it's extremely hard to put a price on it.

Must admit, i've been out of the purchasing game for quite a while, but after looking out for 1600 for a friend that is interested I was staggered by the asking prices for cars that still needed a lot of work.

As you said above dat2k, some of the "project" car prices were the most surprising.
