Hey there guys, just a quick question. Will be buying a series 1 bluebird soon and its only running on 3 cylinders... I've got an already completely rebuilt 1977 200B L20B engine ready to be bolted into a datto. I wanna bolt it into this but i can see a possible problem.

The 200B L20's engine has a horizontal oil filter placement and the s/1 bluebird has a slant/vertical mount. My question is, is if i try and fit the 200B L20 engine is the oil filter going to hit something like the engine mount?

If it wont go straight in, will it go in at all? If so what mods need to be done to get it to fit??? Also are there any other known problems when fitting a 200B L20B engine into a bluebird.

Cheers.

i believe it is to clear the bluebird engine mount thats why its vertical like that. just use the oil filter adapter thingo off the old bluebird l20b block on the new 200b l20b block your putting in.
shouldnt be any other problems when doing the conversion besides that though.

different sumps perhaps?

dizzy wiring might be different too.. (200b might have twin point dizzy)

simple fix tho, just use the 910 gear! (and pickup if you use the sump)

Hello, well i figured out that i'm not going to be able to bolt the bluebird oil positioner thing straight to my L20 motor. My L20 doesn't have the holes drilled in the block!!! See pics>>>

I want to run my 200B block, i've just spent money on that block so i want to use that one. I see a few options here.

1. risk it and see if sticking the filter on and see if it'll fit as is.

2. drill holes into the block for the positioner (dont wanna do)

3. try using a small oil filter

4. try modifying the engine mount

5. new block (dont wanna do either - $$$).

What do you guys think? Do you rekon i could get away with running a smaller filter on this L20? Its not going to be worked real hard. I've just slapped new bearings, rings in it, honed it, will be using A87 head, bigger valves, slight port and polish, cam and weber dgav 32/36 carb.

Let me know, really need help here.

Cheers.

File comment: Now this is the S1 Bluebird L20B block, sorry for the poor photo. Notice how it has that small bolt. Its got about 3 of them in the cast of the block.

try using a different / shorter oil filter, thats what my buddy did. Everthing worked fine, I'm sure that a smaller filter shouldn't cause any flow problems on a daily driver.

You can get a kit to use a remote oil filter using a sandwhich plate, have seen these supplied with oild coolers. You will not be able to use the standard oil filter location in a Bluebird

Have you tried an aftermarket oil filter relocation kit? I know they exist but not sure if they do for an L-series.

First choice is to use a Ryco Z170 or equivalent oil filter. It's a shorter version of the stock type Z115. Get it from any Auto Pro, Repco or Bursons store- they can use that number.
If that doesn't clear the mount then pretty much any 70s, 80s or 90s Ford V8 or 6 cylinder oil filter relocation kit will work. Almost all of them use a Ryco Z9 oil filter which is externally the same as a Z115. The Z115 has an anti-drainback valve in it.

Mte what year is the bluebird. although the l20 variant of the l series might be the same, it is not legal to drop a motor in the car that is older than the year the car was made. if your number comes up on the register as being produced before the car it is going into , not legal.

Oh Crap! I forgot that I posted that in here, sorry Guys.

Its a 1981 BB, I'm not sure how I would figure out what year the block is?
Its only the block that I have changed - although that holds the numbers :(

I'll start my own thread in the Members rides section now and link you all :)
