Saw a Datsun 1600 become available in Newcastle area last week, and I'm down near Coffs Harbour, I was hoping there might be someone who could go have a look at the 'barn find' 1600 to save me an 8 hour trip, beer money can be provided.

Last time I checked, I know Dave was at Wallsend when I dropped some chrome bumpers off to him many years ago.

It looks parts complete going off the poor photos I've been supplied, complete but in the boot and back seat as it was to be a spare shell for his rallying career, and it started to get stripped.

Obviously want to know the main things like the amount of rust it has and whether it is usuable as it is visually or if it needs a full body work. The mechanicals aren't too important as I can fix that myself, but a full once over would be greatly appreciated.

It was on the facebook page Downunder Datsuns last week.

I think its time to sell the modern Datsun I have and come back to carbs again.

If you get stuck I could have a look. I'm not very cluey on 1600s to know all the right spots to look for but I can definitely give it a go if no-one else can.

Yeah, I can have a look on the weekend. I believe it is at Redhead (going by the location of the panelbeater's shop in the photos), which is only a 20 min drive from my place.

PM replied. From what I could see in the (admittedly fairly bad quality) photos, it looks like a reasonably good shell. I was tempted to have a look when I saw it on Facebook, lack of storage space and fear of the wife stopped me.
