Hi, can someone please help me identify a Datsun? It was shown in the first episode of Home and Away in 1988. It looks like a 240K but the grille does not resemble any one I've ever seen.

Any ideas?

I'll have a stab - I believe it is a C110, but not a 240K. I've seen pics of a 2000 GTX with a similar (or same ?) grille. Not sure if only the 2000 GTX got that grille, or whether some 240K's got it as well ?

I think you are right Dave. It's hard to see in the photo but the body line on the 240K coupé splits in two behind the door which by the looks of things this does.

A C110 is a 240K (sort-of)

How to explain ??

C110 is the official model designation for a car with that body shape.

240K refers to a car of that body shape, but only when it is fitted with a 2.4l engine. So 240K is a name, rather than an official model designation.

Another example : In Britain, they have a car called a 180B. But it looks like this

[ img ]

We call it a 200B because it has a 2 litre engine. Pommies call it a 180B because it was equipped with a 1.8l engine over there. But in both countries (and actually in all markets in all countries) it is designated with the model number "810".

And yet another - what we call a 240Z was called a Fairlady-Z in other markets. But in all markets, it's model designation is "S30"

Ok, so what I want to know is what is the exact model name of the car in the photo, if it's not a 240K?

It would be a Datsun 240K. Someone has just put a JDM grill on it.

And they made a six cylinder version of the 200B body for USA market, longer front guards and bonnet.
Wasn't called a 200B!

Google 'Datsun 810'. Looks like a 200B built by Americans. There we some in Japan too.

Datsun Maxima was the next iteration of the 810 6 cyl. Looks like a 910 bluebird, but also a 6 cyl longer front end.
