I started my 180sx half cut the other day to check how it runs, this is the donor engine for my 1600 conversion. Starts and idles fine and revs with no issues. I connected an oil pressure master gauge and I am getting 50 psi at idle cold and 120 psi at 3000rpm cold and once it warmed up the pressure at 3000rpm was around the same. Compared to the specs this is too high.

Has anyone else come across this on there SR20DET.

I am thinking there is an issue with the oil pressure relief valve.

What oil do you have in it? The stuff that came with it from the half cut?

It still has the same oil as when it was delivered but it is quite clean, I haven't changed it as yet but I am going to change the oil and filter today using 5W-40.
I got it running in the half cut two days ago on my modified Datsun 1600 Tank with BA Falcon Ute Fuel Pump.
Connected oil pressure master guage - 50 psi at idle cold and 120 psi at 3000rpm cold and once it warmed up the pressure at 3000rpm was around the same about 10% less.

I have checked the manual and it states Engine at idle More Than 11psi and Engine at Speed 3200rpm 46 - 57psi.

I have seen on several other forums people asking about SR20DET with high oil pressure but most have no clue.
I am just wondering if anyone else has had this issue with High Oil Pressure with their engine eg: Issue with Oil Pump Relief Valve.

Cheers Nads

Without knowing your expertise (and apologies if you are a mechanical guru) Where are you measuring the oil pressure? Usually it's measured after the filter, so just make sure you are measuring there. This may explain slightly higher pressure if you are measuring before the filter.

Definitely change the oil filter. The bypass on the filter may be stuffed (or removed?).
It's never happened to me before, but perhaps one or two of the piston sprays or cam lobe oilers (or something else) is blocked? So I'm pointing at a restriction down the line somewhere.

Rip the rocker cover off. Check the condition of the cam lobes. If they look OK, then you don't have an oil pressure issue (yet) and haven't damaged the motor. Usually the SR20DET's show up issues with oil through the cams and associated wear.

I removed the OEM oil pressure sender and fitted my master gauge there.
I have now replaced the engine oil with Penrite HPR5 and Oil filter.
Oil pressure is now better at idle etc.

Actually, I got that wrong. HPR5 is now 5W-40. I thought it was a 30... Should be laughing then.
