Hi Guys and Gals,
My name is Dale and I live in North Brisbane and have recently got a 1978 Datsun 620 Kingcab.
The previous owner has done some pretty wild fabrication with the tray but the car needs a lot of work.
I have started stripping the old gal and am looking for the best places for information, parts and meetings.

The Goal:
Cut all the rust out.
Replace engine and gear box with LS1 or SBC 350.
Replace front drum brakes with disk brakes. ( I believe I have ball joint front end) what disks brakes are best to swap over.

With the mods already made to the car, its would never get a road worthy hence the V8 conversion.
Will be a fun car to drive at power cruise and the like.

Any information re the above would be greatly appreciated.

Cheers Dale (Rat620)

If you are going LS1, maybe consider a chassis change to a 720. Which should give you more easy options in the brakes department.

I find this car bizarrely cool, keen to see it progress.

If I go to a 720 chassis will the cab and tray bolt straight on?

No I don't think so, you'd have to re-jig the cab mounts at a minimum. Thinking about it though, it would mean you'd need to swap motors and everything. Probably to much work so brush that idea.

There is a guy up in queensland with a red 620 with sr20det who pretty much knows all there is to know about them. You'll find him on ratsun.net with username greiggy from memory.

So, been working away on the project.
Stripping the ute and hoping to send to media blast in next week or two.
Lots of rust, so hope we can save it.
picked up Ls1 and auto box today.
Believe I can fit Nissan Nayara disk brake hubs to the ball joints, so hope to get this sorted soon too.

I like the description of this being bizarrely cool, I think it is too! What has been done to it that will stop it from going back on the road? I say try and get a mod plate and register it too!

Too many things to list for not going back on the road, will be for power cruise and burnout type events...
Have now got a 720 chassis for the cab to bolt on.
We dummy fit the ls1 and gear box last week and will be facing the engine mounts this weekend, then we start cutting up the cab.
