Gidday,

Can someone tell me the difference (specs) between a Z18ET and FJ20 OEM turbo?

I have a Z18ET and deciding to rebuild the Z18ET turbo or put on an FJ20 turbo and rebuild that one. Not chasing a tyre burner, just a nice driver - engine has just been rebuilt. At this stage staying with the standard cast Z18ET exhaust manifold, which I assume the FJ20 turbo will simply bolt up to, and is a oil cooled only as is the Z18?

Any advices greatly appreciated.

I thought the z18 had a t3 pattern turbo and fj was t2? Fj will have more power, a little harder for parts and probably weigh a little more.

There the same t3 turbo but pretty sure fj has a slightly larger .63 exhaust housing to the .48 on the z18. And yes will both bolt up exactly the same

Put a RB25DET turbo if you can find one in decent condition, especially if you are running low boost (ceramic rear wheel). T3 footprint, ball bearing and just a lot newer technology.

You may have to run water lines though, not a big deal but mentioning it.

Obviously the fj has 10% more capacity and imo a better flowing head so should easily make more power. I'd go fj20 if I had to but thesedays a SR20 would be a more economical choice and power will be similar. Find a low km one and spend on bolt-ons instead of rebuilding it...
