Hi I'm new to the forum and I've been looking for an alternitive upgrade to my 40 amp alternator with not much success, scouring through books, Internet forums, word of mouth, and also your blogs on the subject so after being totally confused as I think a lot of people out there are I came across the perfect swap, I have a l20b in a 62 Commer camper with a BW 35 3 speed auto , dual battery setup and all the usual electronic gizmos drawing a lot of power.
I came across an alternator from a Nissan patrol Y61/GU TD42 97-07 , J1147, 100 amp.
Which was almost the easiest retro fit I've done on the van to date.
The body is exactly the same I just had to ream out the bottom holes to suit a larger bolt connect the wires and I was done, from 40 amp to 100 amp and charging out at 14.5 amps.
Just thought I would share this with all concerned.
I will upload some photos once I know how any help with this would be great, Cheers

Hello Niscomm,
It may be easier if you use an outside image sharing website such as photobucket.

It sounds too easy but really awesome! Would like to fit one to the 200b but will check the wiring. I'm pretty sure there is a warning light wire to the dash but the main feed wire is simple . Can any auto elecs comment? I'm a fitter and a spray painter but need more info on the electrical side lol

Yes it was pretty easy to fit up you have the main feed then I branched off that to the S switch terminal and the L went to the dash light, as I have a dual battery set up that's how the auto sparky told me to wire it so now it produces about 14.5 volts which charges all the batteries.
So if I were to post more info about the Commer would I continue here or start another topic?

Hey guys, my original alternator finally died in my 200b so i tried the suggested alternator. I only needed to grind a touch off the inner alternator leg washer for it to fit over the original bracket. I needed to use a 940mm fanbelt instead of the original 915mm. I upgraded alt to batt wiring to 4 guage also. The original alt had a yellow wire going to the choke relay and on to the Brake Warning Light. I put power to this wire to make the light go out but occasionally it comes back on so i may have to recheck earthing and see why thats happening. Apart from that its charging perfectly, with the 2 wires L and S going to the Charge Lamp and a Power Feed respectively.
