okay then....the trans xmember is positioned right, but doesnt bolt up. i will lower the engine xmember to hopefully get it right.

baz i dont have any other holes drilled cause its still had the orginal engine. the play that would be required to get a bolt in is so tiny, so i would tend to think that if i dropped the engine then it would line up. its not like ive got the think upsidedown. like i had the engine xmember

poor guy and his datto. i thought i saw that car in fast fours.

so does that mean that autos are different to manual floor pan and trans tunnel????

Graham, do you have the engine mounts the correct way around?

so 1600s have a bigger trans tunnel for auto's do they?
Come on Pro!
I did not say that!

Are you looking for a debate on this.
Fact! floor pan pressings ARE different for autos.
Fact! the mounting positions as quoted are correct.
And re width/height of tunnels.
would you wager on this???
cheers
hey whoa there big fella!

just purely asking a question there. an emoticon might have helped i guess.

i'm just wondering if the 1600 tunnel is a different size than the manual. no doubt the mountings are different, but it's the size i'm wondering about.

i may just clear this up abit i am starting to sound like a complete idiot....the engine mount and xmember bugger up was when i was nutting it out with my wife, she had one idea and i had another. (mine was right) i cleared it up with baz. so thats the engine mount thing out of the way.

the trans xmember. i am just trying to fit the trans xmember. by sight the mounts and brackets line up and i have done a test but the xmember didnt bolt up. so thats why i am just trying to seek info on the xmember.

this is where the bolts go for the first four.......right and that is the left hand side right..........

mate u really have to make sure the engine mounts are loose in the front crossmember slots to save yourself a lot of time imo. due to the length of the whole motor box assesmbly a few mmm movement at the engine is a cm at the gearbox.

This means you fighting a battle to get it lined up. if u have loose engine mounts you can get under there with gearbox x member loosely bolted to gbox and shake it all around till it lines up. then once located (all threads started) u can recheck engine mount positon (centre of slots) and tighten it all up together.

That should be right for a manual trans shell.
post a pic of the interior side, where the caged nuts are.
as the angle of your shot makes it difficult to reference position.
cheers.
