A photo will probably be the best.
that being said alot of the nissan turbo's look the same on the out side and are just internally different.

where do i read the a/r on the turbo???
there are a few random numbers on it but i assume it isn't as easy as reading it off the housing as there are no decimal numbers i can see...

nissan-badged turbos don't have A/R ratios stamped on them.

it could be a T3 off an R31 RB20DET.

is it water-cooled?

does it have a grub screw near the oil/water outlet/inlets? if it does then it's a ball-bearing turbo and more likely off an R32 RB20DET

it is water cooled,
what is a "grub screw"?

umm it's just a bolt that holds the ball-bearing in place. if you can't see a bolt, then it's not ball-bearing.

take some photos - that would make it easier to identify
