just wondering how to figure out my fuel requirements, i.e injector size, main line and return line and pump.

i plan on getting around 350 - 400 rwhp

This is what i had in mind, please correct me if you think it should be something different

Main lines - 3/8"
Return lines - possibly the same
Main pump - Bosch 148 ltrs/hour @ 5 bar - is this too much??
surge tank - standard
lift pump - not 100 percent
injectors - probably 550cc or 600

Return lines: don't need to be as big as the feed. I've just used the standard feed as the return (I think its 5/16?).

Main pump: The bosch 909 pump (which I think is what you are referring to) is around 10% more flow than a 910 which is reputedly good for around 200rwkw, so the 909 will be getting short at around 220-230 i'd guess.

Lift pump: carter/holley/piersburg/whatever. These are fine.

Injectors: 550cc will get you to (very approximately) 660fwhp.

Enjoy. 400rwhp is quite a lot dude.

Dave

thanks dave, i know 400 is alot but you have to sepnd your money somewhere (i ripped that from someone here) :) , is there such thing as over kill when it comes to pump/injectors? having too much pressure or too big injectors, from what i have learnt there should'nt be because the computer will tell how much juice to put in and if there is too much pressure in the fuel lines/rail then the pump wont pump anymore right?

thanks

Joe

The fuel pressure regulator is what controlls the amount of fuel that the injectors see. The pump just pumps.

You won't get too much pressure unless the regulator stuffs up. Too much pressure means the injector spray pattern goes wonky and you get incomplete burns etc.

Too big injectors means some computers have trouble controlling them at very small openings required for things like idle.

That being said, definitely go for SOME overkill. ie 550/600cc injectors should do your required power target happily.

Hope you're going to be doing all that we talked about to your engine. 400rwhp isn't going to come cheap.

Dave

hey, you stole that off me!

sounds like you are progressing with everything, which is more than i can say for myself.

just out of curiosity, have you thought about getting a new tank with baffles, etc, and running an in tank pump? (i haven't decided on this issue myself yet)

as dave said, 400rwhp is alot! just ask Mick (NIS 016)

i have heard that most of the intank pumps are'nt as good as the external, i cant remeber why i run through the papers if you like, plus i dont mind the sound of the external

well i might aswel get it right the first time IMO, i wont be driving it at that power all the time, i just wanted to build a really reliable 300car
and it would be a nice option to have :D

I hate to bring up an old topic but lets just say that i have a pump configuration like in the pic attached (Gotta love paint) and one pump is ratted at 200rwkw and then i add another should this flowenough to support around 400rwkw??

Also if i over spec on the lift pump will this cause any issues

Thanks

Joe
