Hi

Can anyone recommend a good brand of car cover and where to get it - I bought one for $90 from Kmart but it started to come apart after a month. I'm happy to pay more for good quality......
My 'good' 1600 is currently getting rained on regularly while the non-rolling shell hogs the garage. :?

Cheers, Neil

i got both of mine a while back from 'Autobarn' as other cheapies were very thin and water 'resistant' at best.
It was the most deluxe car cover i had seen at the time and is very water proof.
Has clip together straps under the floor and elastic around the front and rear.
Have stored cars outside very successfully and the soft inner doesnt scratch the duco.
They were around $120ea but are worth every cent.
I cant remember the brand off the top of my head... (might be Autotechnica??)...

Thanks for the replies, guys even yours Lurch :P the garage IS a total diaster but I can't move the shell v easily, but that probably is the best solution. Any suggestions for moving a wheelless shell in a garage (apart from putting the wheels back on!) the driveway goes up quite sharply from the garage door.....

Nick....Did that come in a red package?($140 at Kmart) Mine was autoTechnica but the cheaper one. The straps just started to tear the seam apart, there was no reinforcement at all, just stitched straight on.
I would have bought the more expensive one but they were all large or extra large.

Mr 1600 - I can see your reasoning there - but is that actually waterproof and 'easy on the duco' ?? Guess its not taht important right now as it got rained on again last night ..... I'm trying to nurse it to its 50th birthday....

Cheers, Neil.

If you want to get that shell out just get a couple friends to come over and help lift it up and out.

Yeah there are autotechnica ones up around the 170 mark, and there are also some cheaper autotechnica ones too, ferrari F40? on the box if i remember correctly for the good ones.
i have a cheaper 50 odd dollar one (forget the brand name, starts with sun or something you'll see it if you go into autobarn) as my car is just sitting in the shed so its just stopping dust, and is still quite soft and wont damage the paint unlike the 30 odd dollar ones which are like tarp material. even has a zip up the side so i can access inside the car without having to take the whole thing off. this brand also make a better quality one which is of quite a high standard, cant remember the price though, but not as high as the autotechnica one.
and yeah the more expensive ones actually boast theyre waterproof yet breathable, and wont damage paint, so they'll be your best bet.

alternatively, i did see once this big plastic sort of room thing (meant to go inside a shed/showroom) with a fan to keep it inflated and circulate air/stoip dust settling. would be ideal for a collector where the cars never going to be driven.

hahahah you have SEEN my garage havn't you Lurch?? I've attached a photo to refresh you memeory....

Seriously though I would appreciate some help at some stage to lift the shell out. I'm hoping to put a car port on the side of the house and stick it in there then put the good 1600 in the garage. I would happily provide a BBQ and beer whan the time comes...... maybe next year. I could do some tidying in the meantime so you could actually get into the garage in the first place.

Haha BeattieZ !

Thanks for all responses

Cheers, Neil.

Nice shed

Here's mine. Custom built to take two 1600's end-to-end  .
Besides the two Datsun's that are eaily seen, there's another one stuffed away up the back, plus two vintage motorbikes. I ran out of floor space, so built the loft over one 1600 for panels and gearboxes and other big stuff

We should have a "Show us your shed" thread :D

And all it takes to move a shell is a length of chain and an old Magna. Unfortunately, it leaves great big gouges in your asphalt driveway from the big bolts that hold the rear crossmember on

I like it! Perhaps with an Ozdat 'hall of infamy' award for the worst one!

Thats true .... I don't have a problem with the SELLING part, its just the packaging and posting thats tiresome, plus you just never know when you might need that pile of spare half shafts or the 3 R160's stashed in the corner!

Cheers, Neil.
