Gday,
The L18 in my sunny is about to undergo a top end hot up. It will be mildly ported, 72 degree cam, standard valve size, valve springs and lash pads. It has had new valve guides and hardened seats fitted. I intend to use this car for street / race applications and want to run one or two dcoe webers, but it will be a street car for a while and I was wondring what sort of fuel consumtion I would get if I drove it farily steadily with a few stabs of the throttle on the occasion. With that in mind and the specs of the head (bottom end is standard L18) how many and what size weber/s or dellorto/s should I run?

Cheers,
Tristan.

You cant beat the sound of twin webbers. For race application 2 is better than one. For street use granny driving will reduce fuel consumption and then you still have the power with the webbers. With my twin SU's i get bout 9L/100km so twin webbbers will be a fraction more. As for size i reckon twin 45 webers or Twin 40mm Dellorto's or Twin Su's. even though u could get a single downthroat webber but wont have the balls of twin sidedraft webbers.

Ryan

alright, sounds good what would I be paying for a good second hand pair of 45mm webers, filters, manifold to suit and linkages? Is there anyone interested in selling some?

Cheers,
Tristan

good choice to go with the twin webers dont expect good fuel consumption though especially with the 72deg cam i go through as much fuel as a standard commonwhore six but thats probly only cause i hold it flat everywhere. not sure on prices because sometimes they come up for a ridiculously low price just keep an eye out and you should be able to pick up a bargain.

tristan,i was in carby services here in sydney recently,& they were fitting
a downdraught weber onto an l18 in a 120y.it was either brand new,or reco'ed,& was replacing a set of sss carbs.i didn't get a chance to ask the guys what carby it was,but it had an electric choke.i reckon this would be the go for a street driven car, even if you're going to do some competition work.or you could get & reco a 32/36 weber off a cortina or 2litre escort.the kid next door to me did this to hid 1600 with a stock l18
& we didn't even have to rejet,it was close enough to spot on.this would be a lot cheaper than 2 dcoes plus manifold plus air cleaner plus linkages.not as sexy as twin webers, but easier to downplay to any police
when they pull you up.

Ive found a single 45mm DCOE weber on a lynx manifold, Ive talked to a few blokes in my car club and they rekon with a 72 deg cam, mild porting and valvesprings it should go alright. I just want some more opinions before I buy it.

Cheers,
Tristan.

Oh and by the way B310gx, I was going to put a 34/34 ADF downdraught weber off a falcon on it, but there wasnt enough clearance so i would have to put an ugly scoop on it :P

If you are interested I have a DATSPORT modified manifold with 34ADM Weber. It had slightly more pull at top end than the Factory 37mm SU's but was a little sluggish down low. Mind you I never had it jetted or played with in anyway.
The manifold has been modified to allow the 34ADM to fit under a 1600 bonnet with no dramas.

I can pm you a pic of the setup if you are interested.

Thanks but no thanks Datsss73, Ill give you an idea of the clearance i have, the bulge in the front of the rocker cover for the timing gear is only 10mm away from rubbing on the bonnet, so a downdraght carby wont fit.
