Gday,
I have a choice of 3 sets of carbies for my L18, 40mm dcoe webers, 40mm dhla dellortos or some 40mm solex/mikuni PHH's.

I was wondering which is the pick of the bunch or if they are pretty all much have the same in charcteristics. Which would be best for a street/race application on a warm L18?

Im after as much feedback as possible.

Cheers,
Tristan.

I have a set of PHH Solex's. Version 5's , so not the Toyota ones.

Solex's are what Datsun used on it's race cars in Japan and the USA.

I would use whatever you can get parts for without much hassles.
All the parts for the Solex PHH carbs are available from the US.
http://www.wolfcreekracing.com/classified.htm Some wild Datsun gear on this site.

I'm not sure about Weber/Dellorto parts.
But as they dont make Webers anymore and the Weber design is being made in Japan under the OER DCOE brand. http://www.racetep.com/tepoer.html
These use all the old weber parts with a few improvments (so they say)

I hope this helps.

they all rate about the same.
variations on models made for confusion in performance.
So one model will be better in similar conditions.
its availability of parts & the expertise people have.

Thank goodness for wolfcreekracing if you've got Mikunis, but where I live, I'd go Weber since the local dunebuggy shop has DCOE parts in stock!

As far as I understand it, the Solxes are technically the best carby, followed by the Dellortos, followed by the Webers.

The problem is that when it comes to parts availabilty and knowledge, the order is reversed...

I'd get the Webers any day, purely for the parts supply. Dellortos would be a distant second, with Solxes only considered if they were ridiculously cheap.
