Hi guys

Just wondering if the standard "Nikki" Carby on an L18 has a FUEL RETURN?
I can see where the fuel goes, but i was told carbys have a return as well.
Is this correct?

I have an SU Carb that i am gonna be using for a draw through setup and it seems to have another nozzle - which looks like a return.

If my standard carby doesnt have a return, how can i run my SU?

Any help appreciated.
cheers!

Hi Aym23q

Anyway, as far I know, which admittedly isn't a lot, only the very early 1600's had a return off the carbie. Other carbs may have provision for a return but may be blanked off? Wouldn't the second nozzle on an SU be the output fuel line to a second carbie? You can probably just close it off.

Cheers, Neil.

.... possibly shouldn't mention this .... but still no avatar!? Sorry about that.

The 240Z style SUs have an overflow on the bowl, my understanding is that when the environment wasnt a concern they used to dump down to the road.

My '70 1600 has a return, but both my '71 1600 and '72 180B don't.

The 180B SSS SU's have the float bowl overflow pipe leading into the air cleaner. Although when you replace the stock air cleaner, they usually just end up dumping onto the road as you no longer have anywhere to route them to. (or pouring out onto the extractors when the float chamber needle sticks in my case  )

When you say your SU has "another nozzle", whereabouts is it ?

If its on top of the float chamber, then its just the overflow that we have referred to. This doesn't need a return, and really shouldn't have any fuel coming out of it under normal conditions.

on the side of the carby there are 2 nozzles, one i believe is the fuel in, and right underneath it in a "South-East" direction about 2cm away is another nozzle that looks identical.

cheers
