Here is my 1600.

Bought it of an old man, was in good overall condition. Stripped it down, resprayed the exterior and ended up with this.

I then spent the next few months (amoungst many other projects) repairing any underbody rust that I didnt do done when I did the exterior respray and replacing and fixing most steering components and bushes, hoses etc.

My engine bay was looking like this

[ img ]
Quite ugly.

I then proceeded to strip out most of what was in the engine bay, remove the battery tray, weld up a few un needed holes, and fix a section of rust, as well as taking most of the bay itself back to bare metal. I got a final coat of paint on it early this week - very happy with how it turned out.

I have since re-fitted most items in the engine bay, and I will hopefully look at fitting the new engine to it some time this week.

Today was spent stripping all the old dirty underbody deadner off the bottom of the car and re-applying some new underbody deadner, fairly happy with how that has turned out.

Next I need to fit engine and set up the battery in the boot, then go from there.

Cheers Dan.

Thought white might be nice for a change :P .

Completion time.... Hrmmm - Hopefully have engine and box in by the end of the weekend as well as necessary mods to get those to fit properly (sump and gearbox X-member). Then I need to shorten tailshaft, do exaust etc... Hopefully wont be too much longer. Then its drivable atleast.

Well the engine bay is looking a little more complete now

[ img ]
Complete with single circuit m/c :S
Dont worry, that will be changed in the not too distant future.

Heres a shot of the interior

Fairly good original condition, but will be needing a bit of a change!

More to come tommorrow (hopefully I'll have the engine in by then).

Cheers Nik,

Yep at the moment it will unfortunantly/fortunantly be an L20b that I have just rebuilt with a pretty well modified cyl head, 72deg cam, big compression etc. Should go alright for the time being.
Looks like this (if anyone was ever interested in what an l20b looks like :P )

This plus a Zed box and an R180 LSD should give me a pretty suitable drivtrain for the club car / daily driver compromise.

Once its in and going, I can then start on some suspension and brakes too.

So I guess you'll be wanting your 200B front cross member back then

Haha - I'll be attempting to make it all work with the std crossmember. The car won't be too much lower than std, so it should be ok - hopefully. :P

Plus there is no way I can be bothered investing that much time into it ATM, haha.

1600 Update:

I have still been playing with the 1600, the engine is in and running - it goes quite hard for what it is. It will be jetted properly this week or next so I will have an idea of how much power it has then, but I am very happy with how it goes.
I converted it to throttle cable using a Bluebird pedal and cable, it has also been fitted with some extractors and a 2 - 1/4 inch exaust.

In the rear I have put some Bilstein rear shocks in it, and the front now has 240k struts with custom made koni's and a strengthened stub axle, the struts also use a smaller spring perch which is useful when trying to attain more camber. At the moment it is a bit undersprung in both the front and the rear (although not too bad), so I will probably end up converting the front struts to coil overs, which will also assist in trying different front spring rates.

I have also fitted some rose joint adjustible lower control arms. These required shims/spacers to be made to position the rosejoint on the LCA - Xmember pin, due to the width of the rosejoint.

I have moved the battery to the boot and also fitted an electric fuel pump to the boot. The boot area itself is in desprerate need of a strip down and some paint which I will do in the near future.

Anyway here is some pictures of the updated stuff.
