Hey guys,

Just picked up my first LHD car.

Its a 1978 280Z, with the fugly bumpers, 14" centrelines, and a rear window louvre, which will be replaced with nothing, 16x8 sportmax 002s, and nothing respectively.

Good to be driving a zed again, though I must say, its slow as ****.

Plans are to keep it a daily, with a few handling/braking modifications as time/money permits. So some decent springs, shocks, general maintenance stuff, and maybe some decent rotors/calipers down the track. :)

Edit. Removed stupid rear window louvre, and gave it a wash today. New pics.

Dave

Looks to be a clean example, welcome back to the Zed ranks.

pretty sweet

is that a 280z, not a 280zx??
is that why it looks more like a 260z than the 280zx we have here??
what are the other differences??

Wak,

Yes, its a 280z. The last of the S30 chassised cars. I don't really know many other differences. Its essentially a 240z with L28E, R200, 5-speed, and slightly different trim bits.

Ryan,

I've lived in CA for almost 2 years now. Met, fell in love with, married a Californian girl whilst she was studying in Melbourne.
Its pretty nice really. Right near the beach, good town etc etc. Hope the economy picks up because seriously.

Dave

Can you legally ditch those bumpers? They look pretty out of place.

yeah, that looks to be a tite ride, surely you can just put on a set of 260z bumpers, and nobody will be any the wiser?

Worst case scenario, if you were to get pulled over just undo the 4 bolts on each end and stick the stockers back on.

BTW, those wheels are teh win.

I picked up an L28E recently, I think I'll ultimately be joining the ranks of the 280z brigade (although until now I thought the 280z's had a carburetted 2.8 in them).

Bob,

Yeah as I said in the first post, bumpers are going. To be replaced with nothing. Don't need the extra weight, and it does't cost anything to take stuff off the car. :D

Dorifticon,

Cheers for the props for the wheels. They're actually growing on me, and as I hardly ever see them I reckon i'll probably just paint the centres black so you can't see their ugliness until I can get some sportmax 002s.

Thanks guys,

Dave

All the wheels need is some treatment with a hole saw :)

hey there Dave,

Its looking great! The 'beach shack' is looking good too :) Whats it like driving a Z from the passenger seat-or have you forgotten how to drive on the right side of the road already?

Andrew

Andy!

Welcome. :D

Driving on the wrong side is a bit tough to get used to. Esp as I haven't driven a manual for 18months or so. First time was, woh, clutch, woh, where the hell are the indicators, sh*t, etc etc.

I've only mistakenly gone from 3rd to 2nd once so far. The diff is a 3.54:1, so 3rd gets me up to 100kph+. Wasn't at all happy about going back to 2nd. :D

Will post more pics after wheels/suspension. :D

Dave
