At the risk of being abused, it makes no differance. The 180B (or at least mine) doesn't flex without the brace. Rebuilding the steering box on the other hand is one of the best things ive had done
Who's a good place to go to for rebuilding the stock box?

A couple of places I spoke to reckoned the steering box ain't the rebuildable type (so it's good to know that wasn't true)
You can buy rebuilt ones from datsport, not sure if they're an exchange item but they do rebuild them.

in the manual it shows how to pull them apart, inspect, replace and adjust so they are rebuildable the problem being finding someone who can get the parts for them.

yes we will rebuild your steering box.
One part we cannot replace is the worm assy.
We are looking into getting these hard chromed & reground
but its not cheap.
So the boxes we have without exchange all have excellent worms.

Had mine done buy Bebco at regents park, they supply exchange steering boxes, racks and pumps to places like Repco so if you go straight to them it cuts out the middle man.

I would like to do this too and can find the part on Maddat. ($85 - http://www.maddat.cjb.net/)

Is there any chance that someone could please post up a picture of the brace fitted??

It would help me understand how to install it (as well as completing this thread)

Click and follow the links in the post 2 up from yours.

Pretty sure there are pics on Datsport's website (for a 1600, 180B is the same, just slightly different shape bracket)

are the holes in the guard there from factory or do you need to drill them?

That would've been a fun job with all that stuff in the way.

Nah them holes have to be centre punched and drilled.
the bracket came with full instructions btw...

Yes it would be fun but I was smart enough to do it before dropping the engine in, doing the job while having an L series would be fine tho.

how strong are these brackets? They look quite thin. The double ones would be fine I imagine, but it looks like the single ones would have the potential to flex still.
