Good news. Got it working. I replaced the coil (probably didn't need replacing)....and guess what? The choke was stuck open!!! How simple is that. Adjusted the cable, now runs like it should. Thnaks for everyone's tips

Got it working. It was the choke. It had been pulled out too far and the cable had jammed. This explains why it started OK when cold. It was simply flooding with the choke permantly on, hence the rough running of the motor. It's always the simple things!!!!!

Edit: didn't think my other post was going to get up. Anyway fixed.

Good to hear it was such a simple problem :)

nice work!

i had my filter and whatnot off the carby on mine the other day to fit a cruise control diaphragm and I was utterly bewildered at the number of things going into and around the carby. what a nightmare! It even looked like someone had removed a part on the back of the carby because there was a diaphragm there with a vacuum feed going to it, and then an arm not connected to anything...... who knows! Can't imaging they're the easiest things in the world to tune and tweak - imagine how much fun it would be if there were three of them!
