hey penni, pretty lucky to find one in running order these days, you dont see them at all were I am, good luck with it, were about's you located,

Hey Glen, located north of Sydney, near Windsor. The 1600 came with an L18 in it, and half a car full of spares. The original 1600 is still there too. Unsure yet what I'm going to do with it all. Coming from an Evo 9, I need more power :)

I'd still like to keep it as something that I can learn to work on myself (couldn't do that in the Evo). So, I guess that means probably leaving it normally aspirated?
Penni , Im keen as mustard to help you with your 1600.. I remember the last time i saw you behind the wheel in your old 1600.. I was trying to get my (then girlfriend) to smoke you in her Escort.. The old Esky was no match a Dato !!!... wow , was that 20 years ago.. Damn. long time ago..& we are not even 40 yet !!!

Hi all,

Just joined the forum. From Perth (Western Australia) suburb Canning Vale. I have a Datsun 1970 1200 Wagon. Owned a 1600 automatic for a couple of years many moons ago. I also have a whole car's worth of 1960s Bluebird parts, from my Grandfather's estate, which are looking for new homes. Can any of you point me to anyone who might be interested?

Thanks,

Kim.

Hey guys, I'm 21 and from Coburg in Victoria. I just bought a 1978 120Y Sedan, Sunburst Yellow with a white vinyl roof. Anyway I'm glad there are sites like OZDAT.com because it's such a useful resource for people with these cars. What an awesome site. Cheers!

Hey all,
names mike, and I'm from British Columbia. Originally from Ontario and we always loved to see cars from BC that weren't all rusted out. We thought that salt wasn't used but having lived here for 20 years now, it has to be the rain washing the salt off. My first Datsun was a '68 510 I bought from a fellow worker for $50 to support his bad habit. Because of that Datsun I bought a new '76 B-210 and even drove it to BC on vacation. Later I bought an eight year old 521 for ripping around with. Always wanted a 620 but life happened and about 10 years passed away Datsunless. In the early '90s I had an opportunity to move to BC and took it. I found a 620 for $75 that ran but needed a water pump. Over the next 15 years I improved it for hauling my firewood.

It's a 620 KC cab on an '82 2wd long wheelbase 720 frame, 720 trans case, Z24, '81 S110 5 speed, Chevy driveshaft, early '80s 'Yota SAS swap in the front, D-21 power steering, 720 wiring and 4x4 dash, Chrysler Daytona bucket seats..... i forget what else. I ran out of interest in working on it for now.

A few years ago a local friend had a '74 710 auto for sale and couldn't get rid of it. I didn't want it either but for a 620 dash and a Maxima EI dizzy it was mine. This is the day I picked it up...

[ img ]

Hadn't been on the road since '02 and was from an estate sale having 24K on the click. Even has the original muffler. Checked the valve lash and drove it 100 miles home. Fixed it up with a few things but my wife started driving it and wouldn't you know it she really likes all the attention she gets. So because she calls it hers I found another a '76 goon 4 speed.

How it looks now (naturally 'hers' got the paint.

So here's my goon...

The original owner was so paranoid he would primer any new scratch. Originally from Nevada in the states and kept up here by the owners at their daughter's home and only used when on vacation here. Has 45K miles. The '74 was the last MPH speedo here in Canada and the '76 is from the states so MPH anyway.

So far I have installed '84 Maxima struts with the larger calipers and vented rotors with a zx 15/16" master. The rear has an extra leaf and lowering blocks. The 4 speed was replaced with a '79 280zx 5 speed with an '85 720 diesel tailstock on it for the shorter throw shifter.

It looks like this for lowering. Has '82 S110 200sx factory mags but got rid of those tires for a set of 215/50R14s

Like this now...

It's in for the winter for a needed paint job.

Great site btw. Lots of things to learn about the Datsuns you got down here.

Doesn't look like it needs restoring. Looks to be in pretty good nick. I'd ditch those wheels and put some Watanabe's on there and it would be perfect.

Hi all. Im new to the forum but don't actually own a datto (my dad had a 1000 coupe drag car back in the day). I have always loved 1600's and 240,260 and 280's. But have found a new favourite the nl320. Is there any chance of tracking one down for sale or am I just dreaming as they are so rare. My current car that I have done a resto is a 67 vw type 3 (can't get my photos to work for some reason).

Hi all. I am new to this forum. I use to be a Rotary man and had rx7 however had to move it on due to having a baby. I am now looking to buy cheap 1600 to spend my free time on. I have a question and it might be stupid but when buying a cheap 1600 how much rust is too much? lol.. silly I know. More to the point what should i be looking for when purchasing one? I am wanting to do panel work myself, welding etc.

Hey all, my old man has just bought a 1600. He used to rally one in Radelaide back in the 80's but sold it to support his family.
This one has all the fruit for rally but we are intending to use it for track events at lakeside. Plenty of body work to do but everything else is ready for racing!!
