And not a single wasp sting, either.

I had been bothered by a dull whine from the back of my wifes Corolla (not the kids) a while back. Very hard to pin down which side for sure. Convinced myself it was a bearing :idea:.... possibly the right ... it had a sealed bolt-on hub so I bought one from a wrecker. Changed the right one no trouble - but the whine persisted. Had a go at the left but stripped one of the nuts. Couldn't shift it. even the trusty vice grips couldn't rescue it :) . Ended up taking the whole right suspension to bits, and changing brake parts and stuff. Horribly unpleasant business with lots of swearing. Finally got all that back together. The whine was still there. Turns out to be a (not very old) tyre which was replaced for free.

Thanks Lurch for the sticky :wink: Now that Ozdat has a Confession Booth you should think about adding to the amenities. Perhaps a bar or a gym or something. :P

many many stupid things have been done while workin on cars...

while doin an engine swap in my old 1600 my mate that was helping me dropped a spanner across the battery terminals while putting the radiator back in, arc'ing across bouncing back up and giving him a nice bump on the head.

Cant think of much more at the moment

Many many times I have been working under the car and lifted my head up and banged it against the crossmember - then of course your reaction is to draw your head back.. straight into the concrete *clunk* where you then lift your head up then *clunk* into the crossmember again :) this can continue a few more times :)

Speaking of steep driveways they should be banned. I had a car with trailer attached backed up our steep driveway, and as I was unloading my bike off the trailer, the car started sliding down the DRY DRIVEWAY with WHEEL CHOCKS under both front wheels!!!! The only way to stop was to call out to my friend to put the front brakes on because the bricks were sliding and the front wheels were slowly turning! The moral of the story is DONT RENT A HOUSE WITH A STEEP USELESS PAINTED STENCIL-CRETE DRIVEWAY! It's like parking on the side of a skateboard ramp!

Oh no, a new one...

Did an oil & filter change on my daily yesterday. Dropped the old oil, removed the old filter, put the new filter on, then put the new oil in...

Notice something missing? Like five litres of new oil going straight into the oil drain tray?
Yep, forgot to put the drain plug back in.

Ah, I meant new as in recent...
But yes, it did have just enough capacity - was damn hard to drag it out without spilling it - and of course there was some really old, scungy oil in the bottom, so there wasn't even the chance to let it settle and possible try to reclaim the newer oil for the lawn-mower or something...

My god.....this is a pisser!!!! I have never laughed to hard......

With 10 years of non stop playing with cars I have a few stories......

Like when I did an oil change on my escort just after I got it (I was 16).....I was in a hurry so as I was checking the oil level after the change, I pulled the dip stick too hard and pulled the whole dip stick tube out. Not to be detered I grabbed some locktite and stuck the tube in.....not realising that the angle that the tube was on was important and the dip stick now went into the crank. But I only found that out after I ran the car and the dip stick snapped off and fell into the sump somewhere.

So I pulled the cross member off and the sump off and retrived the piece of dip stick and thought it would be a good idea to clean the oil pickup.....threw it all back together and fired it up only to hear a lound knocking noise....then I saw the gasket for the pickup sitting on the floor.....DANG!!! No oil pressure....... So then I decided to pull the engine out and give it a rebuild while I was at it. I measure up the bores..they were good and stock size so I ordered a re-ring kit with bearings for a stock spec 2.0. I honed it and threw it all back together and fired it up....Beautiful.....until I drove it......when ever the engine was on its 'loose' point (at high revs just as you back off the throttle) it rattled like a diesel....ARRGHHHH!!!!!!!! as I was home cleaning up the garage I was throwing away the old parts when I looked at the old big end bearings...then I wondered why the new ones had STD on them and the old ones had .25 on them....then it clicked.....the crank had been ground and had oversize bearings fitted and I had fitted std bearngs...F*@K!!!! So out it all came and got rebuilt again.....then it was sweet......FINALLY!!!!

I once made a plenum for my twin webers out of sheet aluminium. It was held together with small nuts and bolts and although they had spring washers on them, it was just asking for trouble.
Sure enough, one of the buggers came loose and jumped inside number 4 cylinder were it boogied around and bent the inlet valve. It sounded like harsh pinging....

I must also confess to adjusting tappet clearance without the right size spanners. :cry: I still have the scar on my knuckle when the spanner slipped and my hand connected with the top ridge of the cylinder head.

Forgive my Father, for i have sinned.
I tried to use a pathetic electric whipper-snipper today, on the lawn edges. Flustered and frustrated... i blew my fuse and SMASHED THE PHUCK OUT OF IT!
Oh my! Was it borrowed?
No father, it was given to me... for free, off a less than caring family member, whom i suspect also had... trouble with it.
Oh wait, it just occurred to me: Electric! God forgives you, on the condition you promptly buy a petrol powered one immediately!
