to cut the long story short

- it ended up darker than originally anticipated
- haven't been able to clearcoat it due to humidity from daily bloody storms (yeah i know there's a drought on)
- just finished putting it back together today
- new wheels went on today (thank god they seem to be fitting ok)
- new wheels are awesome !
- new second hand black door trims fitted (JDM)
- my camera sucks dogs balls so these photos are sh*t
- no its not perfect but i ran out of time and my marriage demerit points have skyrocketed into insane numbers so its going to have to stay like this for a while.
- I'm hoping to get a chance to buff it next week
- do i love the colour ? **** YEAH !
- was black metallic charcoal a stupid colour to use on your first go at painting a car ? of course, but **** it you only learn things by doing them the hard way.

Looks bloody great Jeff.

What size are the wheels you ended up getting? And do you have slicks or road tyres on there?

You really need to get rid of that Stanza Steering wheel and put a proper race wheel on there to finish it off

Looking mighty fine there Jeff!! Excellent work!

How long was the car out of action to get it painted? Were you doing other mechanical work to it at the time?

Reason I ask is the RX2 is looking pretty sad, and I'm contemplating a freshen up. However, 15 years in the forests has left its legacy, and every panel will need massaging before it deserves a new coat of paint. That's why I'm hesitant to start repainting.

I'm planning on finishing off the last mechanical bits over Xmas, so I can start racing in the new year. Might even see all y'all out at Mt Cotton, or QLD raceway (as well as all the popular unsealed haunts where the car belongs)

Interesting comment about the weight of the wheels. Guess you should have gone for the Superlites after all

PW the std road superlights are just as heavy :? you need the track only ones to save weight.

In the end the car was only really off the road for a few weeks.
I did all of the rust and main prep work bit by bit and the car slowly turned from white to undercoat.

Once the outside was completely rust repaired and reasonably straightish I ripped the interior out and stripped and painted it.

Then sanded for an eternity and painted the outside.
The sanding part takes forever.

I still need to buff it, but its not too bad for a race car, I would probably have spent more time on it if it was a road car. I also wanted to run it painted at the AHC so was in a rush at the end.

Looks great Jeff, can't wait to see it at sprints in December . .

Love the colour and the mags matched well.

Cheers,

performance wheels may not be terribly light, but they are strong, readily available, have a few old school styles, and have the huge advantage of being cheap and cheerful! check the price of competition use only lightweight panasports sometime

car looked pretty good at the hillclimb Jeff. New wheels suit it down to the ground. and it'll look even better after that buff. Must be nice to have the bodywork sorted and see all the hardwork pay off.

should find some action shots from the AHC in this link:

I believe they only come in one offset in the size Jeff has - 15*7". But they also make a deep dished 15*8" and even 15*10!!! And they've got them in sizes from 13 to 16". I've got a link at work to the Performance wheels size/offset specs. I'll post it tomorrow.
